Be honest... who knows the answer? (Don't post it, for the benefit of younger readers who might not)

I'm probably old enough but I don't get it. A pen and a cassette tape... ummmm... Is the connection that no one uses either of those objects anymore?

They're both recording devices.

Well, technically a pencil works better, but I'm 25, about to be 26 and know.

You old people should be ashamed.

I was kind of old when the two objects were used together, so yes, I am old.

Yes, a pencil does work better.

I also know what a licorice pizza is.

You old people should be ashamed.

Those specific bic pens have a hexagonal cross section. They're just as good as a pencil.

Do you have to be old to know the connection between a cassette box and a razor blade?

chris.....

I was still using one of these for years after cassettes came out

You mean there are people who don't know??

But I refuse to admit I'm old just because I've used item B appropriately with item A... old is a state of mind!

Sigh, I know.

I also did similar things with the VHS tape as well....

I voted 'I don't know' to the title question but I actually do know the connection between the 2 objects in the picture.

I take it back, I don't know what the connection is. I was thinking one thing, then another occurred to me, but I wouldn't do that so I figure it's not that one. But the comments lead me to believe that a bunch of you old people would.

Bic pens worked best. I used to shop at Licorice Pizza.

I also know that if you dismember one of those items, you have to cover the little hole in the side for it to work right.

I bought one of these for my wife last year for the kitchen. The kids hate it. They had never seen one in real life before.

That's sweet. Our 2-year-old likes to listen to the dial tone on our land line sometimes.

Well, technically a pencil works better,

+1 whatever.

I remember one time I found a smashed cassette tape on the side of the road (I think it was something like Sir Mix-a-Lot or some such nonsense that I thought was cool at the time - what can I say, I was like 10 - but my mom wouldn't want in the house), so I pulled the tape out of its smashed housing and took apart a blank tape and threaded the spools of the smashed tape in there instead. Thought I was pretty ingenious at the time.

What the hell? That's not what I did with them together.

I used a pencil to tighten it up if some came out or if the tape had gotten eaten. Not to rewind it.
I did what Tom alludes to with them. Highlight the blank area to see what I mean.

Awesome. I want to get one. Our 16 month old has one of those old white phones you pull around that has the eyes that move and a rotary dial and a cord like that, and I was thinking how silly it was of us to have gotten that for her as she'll probably never see a real rotary dial phone in her life.

And to think I grew up with a party line.

ChrisM2097

I'm just barely old enough to know. Digital media became available when I was pre-teen, making the relationship between these items obsolete.

My in-laws still have & use there's...except they have the wall-hanging model with the 50' spiral cord.

Not for dialing in most areas. The equipment at the other end (in most cases) doesn't know how to interpret the clicks anymore. You can receive calls on them though.

No clue. I never had an 8-track player. Even when I was a kid I was a late adopter and by the time I got around to getting anything like that, cassettes had taken over.
