Hello everyone, I just found this site yesterday so this is my first post .

I have been preparing for 2 century rides ( Tour de Putnam & NYC bike tour ) that I have planned for this fall . I figured this would be good incentive to get back into shape after a racing boat accident where I broke my back in 2 spots among other things.

I choose to go with a Cannondale Bad Boy for its up right riding position and front suspension which I thought would be easy on my back . Also I am more of a Mountain bike guy plus it looks cool . :thumb:

I'm riding about 100 miles a week doing 2 20 mile rides during the week and 50-60 mile rides on Sundays . I'm increasing the mileage about 5 miles each week on my Sunday rides .

Since I picked up the bike Ive added the "bull horns" on to the handle bars a new seat and clip in pedals .

My question is can you guys recommend some good upgrades for long distance riding for comfort and to lighten it up some ?

Any other suggestions on gear or nutrition are always welcome .

Thanks Kevin

Not sure it classifies as an upgrade but as many miles in your legs as you can manage before the big day(s) will do wonders for your comfort levels.

By the look of it, my BB is probably much heavier (11.1 kg) than yours and it'd be no problem doing a couple of centuries on. The only things I'd suggest (which has no bearing on weight reduction) is a set of Cinelli Spinaci Bars (or like) for an aero and comfortable position whilst cruising along at pace, and an extra water bottle holder for fluids.

As Lexi01 mentioned, many K's of training beforehand.

EDIT, I'd be swapping to some 23mm Rubino Pros too....you'll fly.

edit edit, I just noticed you have some "bull horns". Do you mean aero bars?

No... I guess they are are called "bar ends" my kids called them bull horns so I guess it stuck .

I looked into those Cinelli Spinaci Bars . They look like they might be a good investment for different hand positions .257633

Currently I using a camelback but I see that they seem to be frowned upon for long distance rides ? So I have been looking into the " Showers Pass " Anybody have any opions on this ? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fgO0TzNBDZ0

They look goofy, but they work amazingly well.

I don't think there's any problem with a camelback. You can store a few extra things in it, and also your saddle is freed up for a tool bag to carry your spare tube and levers etc. That contraption my be restrictive in the amount of extras you can carry.
