Are you out there? If you are ;) , I propose a ride this tuesday (sorry for the short notice) at 1:30. we can meet behind the art museum at the italian fountain then we're off to belmont for some single track mtb.
let's do it!

I'm certainly not cool enough. I guess I have to start ebaying to find a new bike, just to upgrade my coolness.

totally unrelated, but my girlfriend and i are gonna move to philly in aug and im checkin out craigslist almost relgiously to find a place and to get an estamate of rent prices.
Two questions...
1) what is an affordable neighborhood that clean safe, under $1400/month for a 2 bdrm, and close to downtown or at least close to things i like ie. bike shops, bars, and grocery stores. Ive heard the art museum area and south philly are good.
2) What is Fishtown? I keep hearing about it.
3)where do you all live?

1. we live in the art museum area and are moving to south philly in a month. both are great neighborhoods, you can definetely find what you are looking to spend, and you're about a three minute bike ride from center city from either. craigslist is a good place to find apartments in the art museum and south philly area. however, my only beef with the art museum area is that is a higher priced neighborhood and there is no grocery store...well, there is whole foods but its an expensive place to do all your food shopping. wherever you end up living, there will be a bike shop nearby.
2. fishtown is north and east of center city philly, but is not what is commonly known as "the northeast." it's called fishtown because back in the day thats where the fish were gutted and sold wholesale.
3. answered in question number one.

mmm... I've lived in West Philly for 2.5 years. I love it here, maybe it's because I'm so close to school. There's everything you want and for way less than 1400/month. I would also recommend checking out the classifieds in philadelphiaweekly.com, a lot of people I know have had good luck finding awesome places in there. When you move don't forget to come out for the Pretzel Phix, Thrashin Thursdays and Satisfying Saturdays! More importantly, you HAVE to bring your SS MTB to be super cool.
i'll ride if someone pays for my new fork.

oh man, I am definitly not cool enough. My SS Mountain Bike project has been put off to the side for a while... which sucks. If you want, just take our Mountain Bike out for the regular rides and as the rest of us ride in the street, you can ride over the parked cars on Washington Ave. thats kinda like mountain biking. thats all I have to say. hopefully people will come out for the pretzel ride tonight.... since I dont believe you that you and shogster were there last week...but thats ok, you are forgiven!

i ride SSmtb in philly, but i also work 9-5 m-f so if you'd care to ride on weekends????
as for the person looking for a 1400 dollar two bedroom apt... you can live anywhere in philly for those prices. i'd say your paying WAY too much if your rent is over a thousand bucks! hell, i own a 3 bedroom house and my mortage is WELL under 1400... did i mention i live a block from singletrack (wissahickon).
i'd be up for meeting any of you clownz for a belmont ride on a saturday or sunday! i got a pretty fun ride through wissahickon too (without TOO many of the killer climbs)!

oh well....the weather is not working in our favor for a mtb ride today anyway. a "frozen mix" followed by rain? will rain stop our pretzel ride tonight? i say, no!
