I commute every day with full saddle bags. It works great for that.
do you think the short 16.1 inch chainstay is a problem for pannier heel strike?
If you have big feet like I do then yes. I have a touring bike with long stays and I set the bags as far back as possible and my feet just barely miss them. fwiw My girlfriend tours on her Poprad.
I have Jandd hurricane saddlebags on my cross check. I only get heel strike if I fail to push them to the back of rack (which means I get heel strike if I don't.) I would not be able to use the largest saddlebags out there. I can see how this might be a problem for touring.
thanks, i guess i should try and find someone who can build me a long haul trucker
I've recently did a 3 day, 197 mile tour on mine. Works great, no problems.

How does having your saddlebags so far back effect stability in snowy/icy conditions? I find I fishtail a bit in really nasty weather. What size shoes and cranks do you have? Thanks.
