"The 33"-Road Bike Racing - Castelli Aero Race Gloves

I picked up a pair of these. They fit very nice, go on easy and seem to come off almost as well. Minimal padding (which I prefer) centered mostly around the heel of the palm. They're intended to give an aerodynamic benefit, however minimal.

Question I have:

Should I use these strictly in TT's or would I look like a total Poseur showing up to training rides & crits in them? (Of course, my clydesdale status makes me look out-of-place when lining up for races anyway.)

The 33 doesn't care how you look. We care how you ride.

I won't wear any gloves in a TT unless it's wet, very cold, or both. I wear aero gloves in races, mainly because I like the minimal padding though.

$50 glove that will probably shred anyways in the case of a wreck vs free bare skin that is more aerodynamic than said glove.

My choice is obvious for TTs.

I wear my normal long finger gloves for Crits, the 1w of savings I would get from that aero glove is not superior to the fact that I like my fingers, and wish to continue using them, if and when I get involved in a nasty wreck.

I wear gloves when it's cold.

That's an option? I gotta get me some of those. What I really need though, are spiked shoulder pads like the Raiders fans.

I'm curious too - are you being serious? After my last run-in with the world, I've been thinking about something like those (Fox Unabombers) and cutting off the fingers. Because yes, it sucks grinding down your knuckle almost to the bone.

Maybe I should include more smileys in my posts. Those are motorcycle gloves. Might be a tad of an overkill for bicycles.

Actually I have a friend who rides in motorcycle gloves. Also some track riders routinely wear them too.

Whatever floats your friends boat really, but statement still stands it's an overkill. Of course when I think motorcycle gloves I think 200+ with armor and designed for triple digit crashes.

As for video, not sure why he was riding in what looked like motorcycle gloves on a trainer. I am going with artsy shots or something.

Ah, didn't realize that. They look like MTB gloves to me.

I used to wear motorcycle gloves as well when I first started crit racing (used to race motorcycles). They were not leather on the top, and were not spiked/armored like those. Very heavy duty synthetic summer gloves (lots of ventilation, but still very thick, and leather palmed). I crashed twice in them though and put my hands down on asphalt, and they don't even have a scratch. :)

I always wear aero gloves (although the Mavic ones as I prefer the lack of written words on them...) they're just more comfortable than mitts. They've protected the palms fine in a crash, which is the main reason I wear gloves of course, scraped knuckles aren't that horrible.

I've seen some guys wear everything from that to home depot work gloves...
