Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - nyc wheelsets

i am looking for a new wheelset. any opinions on these 3 options in the nyc area:

i seem to remember some people here having trouble with nycbikes, but i've never bought anything from them. my vote is for IRO. tony is top notch and i have yet to hear any complaints about his wheels. in fact, i'm ordering some at the end of the month.

which ones?

either the basic set or the deep v's. they both seem to be quality. personally i'm going with the basic wheels (i just unexpectedly bought a mark v on sale...)

i have iro hubs, good to go.

Dumb question relating to Tony's wheels:

Does he use the Velocity Aero rim for the basic model or the Velocity Aerohead?

My brother's looking into these wheels, and while I have favorable opinions of the Aerohead, I have no experience with the Aero.

the NYC hubs and IRO hubs are the same. and are the same as the hubs sold by bensbike on ebay, they're all made by formula. well, except the IRO's are silver.

I've heard people say Mavic Open Pros sometimes make clicking noises and Velocity Deep Vs aren't very stable under certain conditions. Anyone know if there's any truth to these rim rumors?

I'm torn between IRO's deluxe wheelset and Harris Cyclery's Suzue Promax Open Pro. And I haven't really ruled out any cheaper options, either.

I've never heard of anyone saying anything bad about open pro's (aside from weight issues.) Mine feel bombproof.

I've got an open pro + paul hub on the rear and like it a lot. Very stiff, seems quite sturdy.

I think you'd be fine with either. I've been riding Velocity Deep Vees on one bike and Velocity Fusions on the other for well over a year now and have experienced ZERO problems. I'm tipping the scales at 255 lbs (damn holidays) so that's gotta' be saying something about the Velocitys.

Not sure what you mean by unstable but any deep section rim gets squirrely in crosswinds.

NYCBike's been selling wheelsets on eBay as well... might be worth a look before you buy!

I'm tipping the scalesI know the feeling, I think I put on about 7 pounds since September. Bleh.

i just picked up an IRO w/the blk formula hubs

i just mistakenly purchased a pair of wheels from nycbikes on e-bay, i tried to up grade my purchase to the more expenssive wheelset they make (yah know offered them money and all), they were incredibly rude in their e-mail. I'm prob-never gonna deal with them again.

Mavic puts some little plastic thing in that you have to go in and pull out with pliers that is where the clicking noise comes from. Open Pros are bomb proof, I am a big guy and I run Open Pros with Ultegra hubs and they are strong and light. If I ever get a real track bike I will probaly use open pros with surly hubs.

So it sounds like the Formula's are the same as the IROs. If so, any reason why this wheelset (blk formulas w/ CXP22's) wouldn't be comparable to the Deep V's from IRO, at a cheaper price?
