I will be visiting a family friend there the latter part of the week of the 4th and the following weekend. I was curious about some family friendly bike routes in the area.
Our friend who lives there mentioned some paved bike path in a nearby park that goes up a mountain, about six miles in length. He said it was fairly strenuous but is not a cyclist himself. His son does cycle but I don't know if he will be there or be available while we are up.

Hello,
Try looking up the Macomb Orchard Trail in that area. It is paved and you should be able to bring up a map online.

In Michigan?? Someone's pulling your leg!
In any case, I concur on the Macomb Orchard Trail, which runs right through the township and can be picked up at a number of points. It's paved and flat, and is 23 miles long. The first 10 miles out to Romeo goes past neighborhoods and other developments, but out past Romeo and across the big bridge it gets rural and very pretty, with tree cover over the trail and not as busy as the lower miles.
Two good places to park if you drive to the trail: an abandoned mall on the southeast corner of Shelby and 25 Mile Rd, or in front of the bike shop in the strip mall on 26 Mile Rd just east of Mound Rd. Your hosts will know these intersections.
