Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - I have a question!

Which would you rather do, long gradual climb or short steep climb? Not sure which I would choose. Went on 4.5 mile ride with Mr. Hill-Pumper on Sunday on rode bike for first time, went well much easier climbing hills.:thumb:

Long gradual ones..or short if short means I can hold a tolerable hr at the top,and then have less hill to recover on

Depends on what you mean long or short..... Short can be 50 yards to some and 8 miles to others.
Long can be 1 mile to some and 20 miles to others.:D

Which would I choose? Depends on what you mean by choose.
Choose could be choose as in I don't want it to hurt cause I'm already tired or choose for a climb to do as a good hard fun workout ? :D

Long gradual climb; up here that means a mountain, and the scenery is so distracting and inspiring I don't notice the work. :D

Beanz - what do you mean by "or"?
heh
I prefer a longer more gradual climb, in the context of what I mean by longer, more gradual, and prefer. And I.

I prefer short and steep because I can power up anything ...for a short period of time. Long and gradual wears me out (and gravity is not my friend) but thank goodness for granny gears! BTW in my parlance short and steep means like a freeway overpass or small bump, nothing measure in mileage... that said, I seem to find myelf doing long and gradual all the time ( 8+ mile clims etc). The more I do it the "easier" it gets or at least I am resigned to just getting it done.

I rode a metric this past Saturday. Anyting longer than a mile is, for me, hateful.
These were OK
White Rock Rd .75 miles / 550' Average 13.9%
Everly .6 miles / 350' Average 11.0%
Collier .4 miles / 300' Average 14.2%
Pigs Ear .4 miles / 300' Average 14.2%
Bowman Hill 1.1 miles 800' Average 13.8%
Negro Mountain Rd. .6 miles / 250' Average 7.9%
Final climb .75 miles / 500' Average 12.6%
These I hated:
Old Morgantown Rd 3 miles / 1000' Average 6.3%
Devil's half acre 1.25 miles / 600' Average 9.1%

Long and gradual. Easier to get into the groove.
Long and gradual. Short, steep scares me because I run out of gears too quickly and worry I'll have to unclip mid hill.
Good question!
