Southern California - Where are you riding this weekend ? 06/30-07/01

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
On Sunday, I'll more than likely head down from Fontana to Claremont, up MIlls, to Baldy, not sure if I'm heading up to the village from there or coming down Euclid. Early start again! :thumb:

No room for either.
There are mtb rentals down there, and I'm bringing my helmet, seat, pedals & shoes, but as hot as it is I'll probably spend most of the week surfing with my nephew and kayaking.
Never been down there, and the closest I've ever been to such a place was Catalina last year. Will take plenty of pics.

Change of plans for me, looks like I will be riding SART from Upland and then follow the 605 river trail back, 125 miles roughly.
Costa Rica.
Awesome! Have a great trip and be safe. Is that mtb pic from La Ruta? I can't imagine riding an event like that.

Nah, those were from my Catalina trip last year. Only 80 miles that day, but also 11,000+ feet of climbing, some spectacular scenery, and a few of Glenn Ford's leftover bison...

I was refering to the pic in your first post where the cycli has a number plate on his bike.
That Catalina trip looks like a lot of fun!

That pic was simply one that came up on Google during my research. I'm afraid they'll only have junky rentals down there (like Catalina has), but we'll see.
Catalina is definitely worth the boat ride. I think it was either 8 or $12 to take your bike on the Ferry over there, and you have to buy some $35 annual Conservancy Pass (the little green card on my mtb's handlebars).
I stayed at the Hermosa Inn and they let me lock up my bike in their yard. It's a funky old motel with shared restrooms, creaky floors & stairs, but it was cool. It's a pretty sharp climb out of Avalon, but once you get up there, there are places where you straddle the Island like a colossal horse, with ocean on both sides.
You're pretty much restricted to the fireroads on Catalina, but some of the scenery is stellar. Definitely worth checking out if you have a mountainbike.
Nothing like a swim & rinsing off in outdoor showers after a long, sweaty ride, and then meeting drunk girls on the ferry on the way back to the mainland.

That's quite a ride. Pretty flat for a mountain goat like you though!

Yeah I like the mountains but I have to start training for the double I am doing next year.

Probably will try the Riverside Citrus Classic route again. Last time 3 flats with a gash on tire made me give up mid ride... hopefully, it will be smoother this time. (All depends on how recovered I am on the day though... been riding 40+ miles for last 3 days straight with lot of intervals in between.

Nothing special, to PCH and back via Mulholland and Yerba. Might try out Yellow Hill Road if I have the legs(15.1% for 1 mile).

If you stay at the Sandpiper Inn, say hello to Greg Miller, cyclist and owner of the Inn. He was on the U.S. cycling team the year of the Boycott 1980 Moscow games.

Lesper, are you taking PCH to SGRT? If yes, what way to go SGRT to SART? Foothill? I think Genaro asked this as well once.

I do not know I am just following a group. Pain Freak is one of the riders. I will let you know after I complete it.
Somewhere, somehow, sometime.....either gonna blow off the ride and surf (naw...did that Monday and Tuesday and it's still flat) or ride and sail (maybe head up to VTA for a few hours) or just sleep in and do nothing!

My club rode the hills of San Marcos. I swear the ride leader knows every single hill in North San Diego County and he manages to incorporated as many of them as possible into the ride.
Costa Rica.Nice vacation!
On Friday I did a loop of Oceanside/Bonsall/Valley Center/San Marcos/Carlsbad. A buddy told me he saw me riding west on the Oceanside bike trail so I may have done it differently.
Sunday rode Oceanside/San Marcos/Rancho Santa Fe/Escondido/San Marcos/Oceanside. We planned on coming back to San Marcos through Elfin Forest & do the Twin Oaks climb but the road was closed.
Change of plans for me last minute. Rode from Green River via Sart to PCH and hung a right to Long Beach. Hung out with my family while my wife and friends ran 5 and 10 K's and then rode back the same way.

Long hard day in the saddle, great time/average for the frist 100 miles, then it got much harder.

Good job dude! You are a hard man. Thanks for the route. I probably go the opposite way in the next couple weeks. Those last few clicks on Arrow Hwy can be a death march. Hope you had a cold one when you got home.

I went to Fresno and Hanford. That Saturday it was the 36th annual Climb to Kaiser. I did not ride that but just the ride starting at Clovis and north near Lake Millerton.
On that climb to Kaiser, there was a fatality when a rider went on a fast descent and hit a tree.
http://www.climbtokaiser.com/
Then on Sunday I was in Hanford and did an early morning ride there.
