Was thinking about heading down to the inauguration and biking around. But, it appears bicycles are banned from the parade area??? Most of the srticle is about the banning of crosses during in the parade area, but the fourth paragraph down list bicycles. And, God forbid you ride a bicycle with a milk crate strapped to it.

Or if you had one of those 'This bike is a pipe bomb' stickers on it...

Kermit Rainman...HA HA HA HA HA HA HA. Fitting.

Oh, this website is way too "Christian" for the likes of me. Check out a real cutting edge explanation here:
http://www.trueorigin.org/gaygene01.asp (in case people haven't figured me out yet - this is me at my most sarcastic. Religion and I parted ways many years ago. I hate religious denial of this sort. You want a religious definition or explanation of homosexuality - ask a Catholic Priest).
Sorry - I digress.
FotF is/was HQ'd in Colorado Springs. Never saw them at the Oly Velo. Never saw them riding fixed, so that's a good thing.
(flood gates open...let the waters rush free...)
*I won't say anything else on this issue since it is not in the Poli/Reli forum, except that orgainzed religion like this is a stain on humanity.

"Jeremy was a typical teenager with baggy jeans, an appetite like a horse and a "‘tude" the size of New Hampshire. Or at least that’s what his parents thought. But more and more, they began to see how different he was from other teenage boys they knew. Ever since he started junior high school, Jeremy felt like he didn’t fit in. "

The whole parade route is going to be on lockdown. Unless you want to see the president's limo or you want to protest I'd avoid the area. There are 2 special critical mass rides scheduled for Inauguration Day if you want ride around DC.

I hope that a bunch of out of towners are showing up to celebrate for Bushor to protest him for his sake else it may be real quiet there. Didn't Kerry get over 90% of the popvote in D.C.?

Yeah, Kerry did. So did Gore. The Dem Primaries are basically the actual vote here in the District.

Doesn't matter, quiet and secure is how they want it. It looks like virtually all the grass on The Mall is already fenced off. Gotta watch out for rogue picnicers.

Admittedly, I'm new enough to DC that I've never been through an inauguration here. But the good news for CMers is that cops can't preemptive arrest anymore. I'm pretty sure that the CM route is different from the parade, too, so hopefully there won't be hassle.

Protest shmotest--I want to find out about the people who were going to do a mass ride on the Beltway.

Thanks for the link on the critical mass. Hopefully I'll be there.

However, the ponchos just sound like a stupid idea. I can see it now:
Cop #1: "Let's get those CM'ers!"
Cop #2: "But how will we find them?"
Cop #1: "Just follow the blue ponchos!"

Milk crate= molotov container

the feds and the popos know bikers are too rad to be allowed to a protest... besides, it's hard to fix your sights on a good fixy rider!

"We will not rest or be comfortable," he said, "until they take crosses completely out of the prohibited list of props and structures."

I can just see this guy frothing at the mouth, "What do you mean I can't bring my 20ft cross to the event? This is persecution! Oh, and please don't take me near any metal detectors. God forbids it."

thing is i bet none of them were even thinking about bringing crosses until they found out they couldnt. thats whats funny to me. I dont live in DC anymore but i've lived there for around 6 of these inaugeration parades. I really think this ones going to turn into a big ass riot unfortunately

Great. I have to work that day and my office is four blocks from the White House. I just want to ride to work without getting arrested.

Based upon my mis adventures the last few days to departure, and if I'm any sort of trouble thermometer for fixie riders:

You're screwed.

The bill for this thing is up to like 12 million dollars I believe. Normally Bush's people pick up the tab but not this year the tab is going to DC.

Hey, where can I get one :D

microcosm used to have them (http://microcosmpublishing.com/catalog/stickers/) but I guess they stopped selling them for some reason... if you contact joe (the dude who runs the site) he might be able to tell you where to score one.

I used to have a bunch in my distro box, but since I stopped doing the distro, I can't remember where the box of stickers has dissapeared too... yeargh!

map of street closures here:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/metro/daily/graphics/inagurationClosings_0105.html

I think all the roads inside the red are closed. Which probably means no bikes.

But it's only inside the red, not on it. I don't think Massachusetts Ave. is closed until 12pm, then only by the Convention Center.

To see it in words: http://mpdc.dc.gov/news/news.asp?sid=3026
Cr1pes, this is confusing.

And people who live in New Orleans get sick of being near their parade route. thank god this happens only once every 4 years.

Though, it'll be cool to see what a CM looks like at 7:30am.

two CMs in DC that day...

but honestly guys, what self-respecting CMer will get up and ride at 7:30am? be prepared to dodge hungover fixie riders weaving around the road...

protestors' access to the innaguaral parade is seriously restricted. i heard some ******bag on NPR this morning talking about how, "people protesting the president basically align themselves with terrorists like al-queda and saddam hussein, so having them present is just like having al-queda and saddam hussein there. that's just not right, this is america after all, blah blah blah.

he seriously made that comparison.

its a sad day for crosses, bicycles, crates, coffins, cages and statues.

So then what your saying is if
Person 1 is riding a cross with bottle cages on the frame, and a Godzilla Statue strapped to his helmet, and Person2 is riding a Krate and carrying his guitar in a coffing case, a has a King Kong statue strapped to a fender..... They won't be allowed to be there cuz Person1's bike is offending people with the One F***in Speed sticker?
