Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - suggestions on parts/wheel sets online

anyone have any experience with them?

i am going to need to buy all parts EXCEPT handlebars, headset, and fork/frame.

go buy stuff from any of those sites, purefix seems like a form>function kind of dealer.... unless you're into that kind of thing

Purefix makes junk, especially their boat anchor wheelsets. I wouldn't touch them, especially not for the price.

Pure Fix is good for slow rolling campus on a cheap alright looking bike I geuss.

The Rim hoop is jointed and not perfectly aligned. So it'll take chunks out of your brake pad, I've seen that on two of them.
Saw the front axle break on one of them, They did get run into a curb, but I did that a couple times on My old Formula Hubs at 230lbs no problem.

Yeah go for it. So long as you're just buying (they don't sell bottom brackets), grips, bar tape, pedals, saddle and maybe a wheelset, I don't see how that's a problem. Unless you're riding free which I would recommend a wheelset that has better hubs (at least Formula), or track racing (I assume you're not) a basic wheelset riding fixed won't hurt you. Factor in your weight as the heavier you are, the better quality the rim, spokes need to be. But assuming you're 180 or lighter, I don't see how their wheelsets could mess you up.

I recently bought a set of Velocity Deep V's with Formula hubs from Velo Mine, and couldn't be happier with them. If your rear forks are not 120mm they will put in the spacers for you to match your bike, which is a nice touch. I would highly recommend them (the Velocities and Velo Mine).

since i am in the same locale as bicyclewheels.com i have had some dealings with him & can confirm that he is not really very helpful even to the point of insisting on shipping to me rather than allowing me to pick-up.

however...

the one wheelset i that i got from him was hand-built & included rim-tape, while the two sets i purchased from velomine were both from wheelmaster & did not include tape.

but i suppose the fact that i've bought from velomine 2x as opposed to once from the guy in miami does mean something...
