I just set up a KMC 1/2 link on my fixie and for some strange reason the pin (that was included w/the link) is longer than all of the rest of 'em in my chain. Both the chain and the half-link are "1/8" so I dunno what's up. Its also making the chain emit a weird noise. v.strange
Thanks
Are the outer plates of the half link too tight on the inner plates of the regular link?

I had this happen on a ss setup. It was also 1/8". I was using a chain tensioner that had a bar (cage) around the pulley. When I added a half link the pin would rub on the cage part. I had to scrap the project.
For some reason they make the pin longer on half links.
I can't imagine where it would rub on a fixed gear setup. I am also thinking you have a tight link.
Where is the pin rubbing on the drive train?

Well after a day of riding the strange noise seems to be from the pedals creaking, not the new half-link, so that's good - I loosened it up a bit and that seems to have solved the problem. That extra long pin is still kinda odd lookin' and I'm wondering if I shouldn't just replace it with a regular pin once I put on a new chain.
I'm taking it you don't have the half link that has a drift pin thru it with a cotter pin in the end, yeah, yeah I'll take a photo...

Wow, put on a fully nickel plated chain today, inserted the half-link, and boy what a difference a little nickel makes :) No noise, clean, smooth, looks great, sans rust-affinity. OMFG, I can't believe I had to learn that lesson the hard way. I'm still curious as to what kind of link you're referring to...

Yep, certainly don't have that kind. Looks kinda cool though. What is the purpose of the cotter pin?

I thought BMX drops (or "track ends") were plenty long so that you have lotsa room for adjusting.
