Commuting - It was bound to happen one day

Got to work, and no underwear.

Sweaty bike shorts under a skirt is really not a fun way to start the day. Waiting for the stores to open so I can go and buy something.

I knew it could happen one day, which is why I always wear underwear under bike shorts on my super-short commute. Except that today I didn't.

But did it have to happen today, in the middle of a heat wave, when I was dripping with sweat about four minutes after leaving home?

Just go commando. What are the odds of someone using an "upskirt" camera on you at work!

BTW, I keep spare supplies of clothes at work for that very reason. On days that I have to drive, I bring in extra clothes and take home towels and other laundry.

It's a moderately short skirt. Don't want to take the risk. :)

I can see a three-pack purchase in my very near future. One for today, two for an office stash.

Murphy’s Law says that if it can go wrong, it will go wrong, and at the worst possible time. If you keep that in mind, it may help. Just be glad you weren’t scheduled to stand in front of a group and make an important presentation.

I also forgot underwear today, but it's less of problem for me, since I'm a guy and can get away with going commando.

Back when I first started, I forgot my work shoes. Walked around in slacks, a dress shirt and some teva sandals all day. At least it wasn't as uncomfortable as underwear.

Moral of the story is I started leaving my work shoes at work. ;)

Ah yes, I have a collection of work shoes at work.

Given that the stores opened at 10, I now have a collection of underwear too.

I once rode to work in racing cleated shoes that had Look cleats. It's useless to try to walk in them. I had forgotten street shoes, so I went around work wearing just socks. People looked at me funny, but hey, that's normal for me.

Another use for that spare pair at work is in case the pair you wore on the ride in get too wet when you stop to hose off at a friends house. Been there, done that.

I try to pack up the night before, but that happens only about 50% of the time. And being only about 50% awake at 4 am, I have a tendency to forget certain items from time to time. I fear one of these days I'll be changing at work only to find I didn't pack my shirt or pants.

I have spare underwear and pants at work. And outer layers, but no t-shirts, which is more of an issue now that it's finally t-shirt season. Work shoes are sandals for me (that or xtratufs)

Coulda been worse; you could have forgotten to pack a lunch. Yikes!

This is why I take a week's worth of clothes in on Mondays. I keep a pair of work shoes and a hand towel along w/several personal items. Deo, toothbrush, paste, talcum powder, etc. Also, a complete extra set of work clothes in addition to what I bring in on a weekly basis for exactly the reason in bold type. Trial and error. Been there. Done that. Got the t-shirt. Or in the OP's case, the skivvies. :)

I keep a complete spare outfit at work. The items that I most seem to use out of that stash are belt and socks....
That said, I agree that it is easier for a guy. Worst thing that happens to me is I get caught with brown shoes and a black belt - but I am an engineer, so that is expected.

Three things I keep at work so I don't have to port them back and forth each day: pair of shoes, belt, and a U-lock on the ancient bike rack out front. I'm sure I will mis-pack and forget something at some point, but this system has worked well so far for me.

I guess the fortunate part is that you were able to remedy the situation without to much trouble from what I am reading. Which is a very good thing for you.

I keep a complete change of clothes at work for just this issue. I just added in a pair of pants, shrt, etc that I was about to retire due to age/wear. I figure that they aren't good to use regularly any more, but I'll only be wearing them once (or so), so instead of having to buy a new outfit that never gets used, I'll just leave those at work in case.

Spouse now tells me it happened to him all the time when he was bike commuting regularly. But he's a guy. Makes things easier, methinks.

Definitely easier as a guy. Still not a lot of fun. Now I have a full spare outfit at work (when I don't ride I take public transit as I'm car free and having been caught in the rain a few times and arriving at work soaked I've had to use it.

Glad to see you were able to remedy the situation without too much complication. Just be careful, it is super easy to get a UTI or other infection from wearing tight, wet shorts for too long. The pH levels are super sensitive.

You know they say the smart person can learn from other's mistakes, which was never me, but come Monday I am bringing to my locker a spare set of underclothes that way I will never run into this issue. As yours was fairly easily remedied mine would not be. Thank-you for sharing and letting some of us learn the easy way.

lol I would have just gone barefoot if I forgot shoes... or maybe I would forget them on purpose :p

The worst for me probably would be forgetting pants, or a shirt. Or my belt since I've lost 20 lbs and most of my pants will fall down without one. :lol:

Like many others I have clothes at work. I bring in a weeks worth at a time with a backup set always here.

Had that happen after a 35 km commute in hot weather. Kept a spare pair around after that particular ordeal.

I always keep a full change of clothes, toothbrush, paste, a comb and a razor just in case. It comes in handy.

I keep spare undies in my locker at work for a case like that.
