Recently on the BIKE FORUM I have noticed a lot of whining about chuck holes, pushy drivers,
the heat, telling wife about getting hit by a car lol, cramps, feeling like throwing up, wondering about how safe riding a bike is lol.

I have a 4 year old grandson he has been riding a 2 wheeler since he was three, when he falls he doesnt say a word just gets back on his bike and keeps riding. He rode 8 miles on a 16" wheel single speed bike last weekend, against the wind and up hills never saying a peep. After the ride he says bampa(he has a slight speech impairment) I love riding my bike.

You whining guys need to man up like my grandson,,or just find a field with some short grass and ride in circles.

Seriously. In the good old days real men got a bike at age 3, and by god, they rode that thing forever and never complained.

I worked with a guy in a very busy courier office. He used to say 'stop whining' loudly about 3 times a day. It was done with humor and in a nice way. I used to enjoy it. (possibly because he never got to use it on me)

I like whining. It turns off the women, which ensures they'll never sleep with me, which ensures I'll never get one pregnant, which ensures I'll never have to pay child support.

Whining about the whiners isn't really that charming either.

Plus, I have no interest in manning up. I like my gender and it's toughness just fine (hint: It's really, really, tough)

There is only one grandchild that is superior to everyone else'...every grandfather has them!

This little chiding from the OP is not going nearly as well as he might have thought. I'm sure it sounded like a good idea inside his head instead of the dooshy nature that it is being taken.

Okay, I admit that I couldn't MAN UP at 3, it took me until 5 on my JC Higgins, way back in 1954. My son made up for it by riding a 2 wheeler at age 3. My grandson is only 17 months old, but just you wait!!! Who says the younger generation isn't better than us elders?

and I am sure he will ride at three and wont be crying about chuck holes, the heat and the extreme dangers of bike riding lmao the ones whining on here need to leave biking to the tough guys like your grandson and take up knitting or tiddly winks.

and for the other guy,,the post went exactly as I thought it would,,cry babys cry even more when you point them out.

Funny thing I am on 3 other forums about biking and there is no whining about biking on them.

****in A, you're so right. When I have a grandson, I'm gonna feed him rusty nails and give him a four-barrel carburetor as a cuddle toy. Gonna harden him the **** up so he doesn't disappoint you. He's gonna blow all the other kids out of the water on his baby bike, and wait for them at the finish line smoking an unfiltered cigarette. He's gonna be so hard ass when he posts on bicycle forums that all the other men will just cry.

Some people ride because they like having something to constantly tinker on.
Some people ride for fitness.
Some people ride to prove something to themselves, and the people around them.
Some people ride because it is the most efficient method of getting where they are going.

Undoubtedly there are plenty more reasons that people ride. However, one certainty is that many of them will respond to riding, and comment about it, differently than I do. In the end, thats just fine; it's still one less car.

. . . but, the OP is still coming of as a real whiner.:cry:

And that three-year-old isn't crying on the internet about crying, either.

Come on, Grandpa, you're falling down on your job - teaching that kid how to whine about whining.

I mean, what could be more MANLY than complaining about complaining?

He just hasn't learned to swear yet.

He rode 8 miles on a 16" wheel single speed bike last weekend, against the wind and up hills never saying a peep..,,

I don't doubt it. He was likely breathing too heavy to speak!

After the ride he says bampa(he has a slight speech impairment) I love riding my bike...,,

Well....if he has a speech impediment wouldn't that be, "Bampa, I wuv widing my bwike." (?)

You whining guys need to man up like my grandson,,or just find a field with some short grass and ride in circles.

I can't!

Stoopid hayfever, I'd be sneezing and wheezing and my eyes will be watering. I won't be able to see or breath properly.

Then theres all the dog poo that the dog owners don't pick up. The grass is uneven and there's too many bugs.

I'd get dizzy with the riding in circles and likely get cramps and throw up!

Enjoy it while you can. My 7 y.o. grandson did 13 miles on hills and wanted to go further. The next summer he didn't even care about the bike. All he wanted to do was play computer games. I'm hoping he'll regain interest.

I hear ya. My 13 year old son is the same way. Last summer, he would ride all over town. Be gone for hours riding with his friends. We would ride together quite often. This summer? Nonstop video games. About the only time he goes outside is when he takes out the garbage or goes to a friends house. I mention going for a ride, he just rolls his eyes and goes back to his games. I'm not going to force him to ride. Like sknhgy, I'm hoping he'll regain intrest...but before he turns 45.

It's a pot hole by another name. Western American dialect.

I used to do insurance property inspections and write technical reports. One of my supervisors x'ed out "chuck holes" and replaced it with "pot holes" in one of my reports so I looked up both in the dictionary. The "pot hole" definition was a little more specific because it made reference to the shape of the hole. Smart alec that I am, in my next report I included both in my description of the parking lot.
