General Cycling Discussion - Carbon For Big Cyclists

I'm 260lbs guy and I would like to upgrade from my Cervelo S1 to a carbon bike. Are good carbon frames okay for a skinny fat guys such as myself? I would like to know the facts & opinions. I get different info from bike shops and the internet & not sure what to believe. Help!

All opinions will be taken into consideration and are needed!!

As per the reps at Argon 18, their full carbon franes will handle a 400 lb load. That makes them stronger than any wheelset you can put on them.

Don't buy into all of the internet bull-bleep about the "fragility" of carbon fiber. A quality frame is a quality frame.

Look at it this way---modern stealth technology in military aircraft relies on carbon fiber construction because it doesn't present a radar return. I'm not saying that bike frames are built to the same stress load bearing capacity as aircraft, but the material itself is sound.

Something to consider for your weight is the wheelset. The Mavic Ksyrium SL is an excellent choice. However, you should research the Mavic site to determine if this wheelset's weight limits are within 260 lbs.
