Here's a little fixed gear trick, it's fun, sort of....

1) Get going about 5 MPH and take your left foot out of the pedal
and hold it out to the side whilst sitting on the seat.

2) Now your right foot is going around gently with the crank,
your knee is flexing with each revolution.

3) THEN, tighten up your right knee and leg muscles immediately when the pedal is at the lowest position.
The momentum of the bike will pick you up off the seat, because your right knee did not flex.

4) Then, at the highest point of the crank rotation, with right foot on right pedal (and the left still floating out to the side) you can “pump” all your weight down onto the right pedal before allowing the momentum of the bike to take you for a ferris wheel ride back to the top, before pumping back down.

One footed, one legged, off the saddle.....
You can even do this going uphill.
Feels strange.

It’s a stupid “trick” that has one useful purpose:
You can do this with the left foot and then the right to determine if a creaking
sound is coming from the left or right pedal/crankarm.

Two useful purposes: Instant Chick Magnet!!!!
No woman I know could resist a man that can ride a fixed bike one legged....and with one leg out to the side....whoa boy...your gonna get a stack of calling cards in your spokes...

Try this one next time you're walking your bike. Put your right foot onto the left hand pedal when it's at the top. Step up onto it and let your weight propel the bike forward. Your momentum should be enough to bring that pedal around to the top spot again and on and on. I sometimes ride my bike like this through the store where I work back to the place I keep my bike. (I get there just before we open).

I did this the first time i rode a fixie. I wasn't used to toe straps, so i couldn't flick my toe in easily, so i'd oftenend of slowly cruising down the road, pedalling with one foot, while i tried to get the other foot in the pedal. Similar idea I guess, though slightly less intentional.

occasionally i'll ride with no hands on the handlebars (!) but never for very long and always in a straight line. try beating that one.

Here is another neat trick. I call it the Knight Rider (but you can feel free to rename it after any 80's 'good guy vs. the world' TV show). Start riding backwards, for this trick it helps to be going down a hill. Relax you legs and let the momentum take over for a few seconds. Then, when your dominant foot nears the crest of the rotation, simultaneously stand up, pushing forward with your dominant foot, while lifting the front end of the bike around 180 degrees.

Then look behind you while extending an arm backwards, mimicking a shape of a gun with your hand, and then gesturing the shooting of said gun at whoever is behind you.

Ladies with big hair will flock to you.

Start riding backwards, for this trick it helps to be going down a hill.

It's actually easier, and more impressive, to start it riding forward. For reference, see the newspaper delivery scenes in RAD (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091817/).
