Probably for what you spent you could've picked up a quality used bike off of Craigslist that would be 10 times the bike of any Walmart BSO.

you should inspect your schwinn avenue wheel hubs and bottom bracket for grease. if i remember correctly that bicycle has long stem schrader tubes and walmart dosnt sell them i never could understand that.

Take your bike to a LBS and have it checked out! :)
They'll probably charge you about $10-$15, but have it checked anyways! :thumb:

You will find that you will out grow the bike in time. It is a good starter bike but as you ride, get fit and experience new challenges (like hills, etc) you will find that perhaps you outgrew the bike. Not a bad thing but it is what it is!

I used to work walmart, and I can tell you if you get aggressive, demand store mgr, present receipt and state your case that they will give you a refund...BUT you have to stand your ground and tell them in no uncertain terms, will you settle for less than a refund!
I've only bought one bike from them, new in the box. a Mongoose D70r Not a bad bike til some pos cut my lock and took it...

I agree with Tec. I used to work for them when I was 16 years old. If you stand your ground and do not give an inch, you can get a refund. Save all the paperwork! And that goes for anything you buy really be it from walmart or any place. I have had some bad luck with ebay lately but it has been my fault for not saving the paperwork and box :(

Glad you are back on a bike. Sounds like the Schwinn will work out well for you for now. Nice job saving up the cash for a new bike and not buying one on credit. A lot of people wouldnt be that responsible.
xenologer
07-08-12, 07:56 AM
actually, its probably better to buy with a credit card
if walmart gives you trouble about returning a defective bike, your card company is on your side and can reverse the charges from their end
just gives you an extra level of recourse/protection

Don't answer if you consider this question offensive or too personal, but how old are you?
I wonder if Kent/Pacific/Dorel has permission to use the GMC Denali name? I mean, there's all kinds of cheap bikes out there that are named after some higher-end luxury/performance models from the automotive world. I'd be a little peeved if I had worked hard at developing a certain image in order to charge a premium price, only to have someone slap the same name on an inferior product...

do you all think the average basket will go on the rear of this bike?i have a front basket now i want a rear or a rack
You need a rack to mount a basket.

cool ty
You ended up with the Schwinn Avenue (http://www.schwinnbikes.com/catalog/product/view/id/14899/s/2012-avenue/category/155/#/specs), right? I looked at the specs in an attempt to find the geometry info (apparently, that info is deemed 'unnecessary' for the typical big box customer), to see about the chain stay length. Couldn't find it :o, so I can't tell if there is a good chance you'll encounter heel strike or not if you hang a basket off the side of the rack.

I'd suggest going with baskets that hang off the side of the rack. If you have to walk your bike through a door to store it for the night, Wald folding basket (http://www.amazon.com/Wald-Folding-Bicycle-Grocery-Baskets/dp/B007FRCIDI/ref=sr_1_2?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1341809767&sr=1-2&keywords=wald+folding+rear+basket)s would merit strong consideration. Another option is the donkeyboxx (http://www.donkeyboxx.com/). These are best used with a rack like . and not this (http://www.amazon.com/Michelin-Avenir-Alloy-Pletscher-Style/dp/B003BE78DY/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1341809547&sr=8-7&keywords=bicycle+rear+rack).

windhchaser, you may need a monostay adapter to put a rear rack on that schwinn avenue. this adapter will give you a strong place to bolt the front part of a rear rack.

if i feel better im going to walmart tonight to by the extended warranty will give me 2 years of worry free for 20 bucks.. they say it has a lifetime warranty. but if i have to send the bike in sathat would be bad When a company like WalMart offers to sell you an extended warranty, they sell it with the expectation of considerable profit even after administrative expense. This means that in the vast majority of warranty sales they provide little or no useful service in exchange for the purchase of the warranty. In the real world, it is highly unlikely you will get "2 years of worry free for 20 bucks." Just for one consideration, if you attempt to use the warranty, who would be performing "repairs?"

Capital letters are your friends. They come in at the start of every sentence, and they are especially useful with the word "I".
Thank you

Spelling and punctuation may not be taught until the third grade. Maybe next year will show some improvement.

My wife has the Schwinn Avenue Women's (http://www.schwinnbikes.com/catalog/product/view/id/14897/s/2012-avenue-womens/category/155/). She likes it because it's comfortable, and easy to mount/dismount. The wheels are horrendous, though. They don't hold true for very long...and you can't tension them much due to the lacing of the spokes, and the weakness of the rims (wheel starts to form a "star" shape). I ended up building a set of wheels for my wife's bike that are much, much better than the originals, because I was getting tired of maintaining them so often.
It looks like your bike has the same wheels, so keep this in mind.

English not being the OP's first language is the only legit excuse for such "stuff" to be posted in 2nd grade format. This has less to do with grammer policing but is more a questioning of the poster's intent. I suspect he is insulting the readers with deliberatly moronic/immature posts or is "challenged" in some manner.

God knows all the mayhem and calamities that might ensue from bad spelling and grammar on the internets! It is far more acceptable to rip on the people desecrating pure, true linguistics than it is to rip on people who who engage in innocuous activities like riding their bicycles against oncoming traffic!

I sure hope the wheels hold out. I sadly found out my basket isnt that great.Id guess it is for less then 8 pounds. But i can still hold bread in there and other light stuff. The basket is from bell and removes with quick release so ya can carry it in the store.Ps what is the maximum weight of this bike? i looked on the Schwinn website but found no info

stack it on till you have frame ride wobble! he he, its all just trial and error.
.
Most front baskets that feature a QR generally have a max load of 10 pounds.

Dang but i guess it is still good for bread and eggs and fragile stuff .I will use my back pack for the heavy stuff.Do you all think the bike can handle 225 pounds? Which would be me and my stuff and grocerys
It should, so long as your not jumping off of curbs and other stunts. Make sure to keep the tires inflated properly to both prevent flats and help protect the rims....
Hold on a sec- I'm aware of your height, but not weight. If you're like 200 and carry like 25 on your back or rear rack, it shouldn't be a problem. But if you're more like 150 or so, that means roughly 75 on the rack (I don't think you have the gear to comfortably lug that much on your back). If that is the case, then you may have issues.
windhchaser
07-12-12, 02:33 PM
Im 165 pounds. Id most likely never carry over 35 pounds. I said 225 to be on the safe side. The rims do look like there weak on this bike at first i thought they was missing a few spokes
Okay, should be good- so long as you don't let the rear wheel bounce around too much and make sure you use a rack that has a decent capacity. Some of the cheaper racks won't take much more than 25 safely, and the seat post kind should be avoided if at all possible, as they tend to have a 10-15 pound limit.
