So this month instead of the flying 200 they're doing flying 250 for the nightly TT. I'm not sure what the proper line is. Is it the same as a flying 200? Do you launch from the same place but get down track earlier?

For your questions, it’s basically the same. You really want to go down to the black line pretty slowly to maximize acceleration. Your acceleration should end at the point in time where you get to the black line; if you are still accelerating on the black line your times are going to be a bit slower.

On our shorter (200m) track it is best to be above the blue line when crossing the start/finish, even though that line is towards the end of the straight.

As chas58 says, it's basically the same.

Maybe jump out of the saddle during the windup 20M earlier.

Chances are that as a new racer, you are probably jumping out of the saddle too late anyway. This is a common mistake that lots of people make, especially new racers.

More importantly: PRACTICE IT.

DLV has a monthly Sprint Night where we do Flying 200s then match sprints. I had a teammate who complained and complained about how his 200M time was stagnating. It never got faster. The conversation went like this:

[Teammate] "Man, my 200M time just won't get any faster!"
[Me] "What do you think the problem is?"
[T] "I'm not sure."
[M] "Do you practice Flying 100s or Flying 200s on different gears?"
[T] "No."
[M] "Do you practice Flying 100s or Flying 200s with different wind-ups?"
[T] "No."
[M] "Do you practice Flying 100s or Flying 200s at all?"
[T] "No."
[M] "When was the last time you did a Flying 200?"
[T] "Last month."
[M] "How often do you do them?"
[T] "Once a month...only on sprint night."
[M] "What do you think you should do??!!"
[T] "I see your point."

I'd imagine it would be exactly the same, just go 50 m longer. But I am a newbie and probably wrong. ha ha

They are essentially the same...if you start much earlier, the officials will be able to time the final 50
with an hour glass...

Flatballer, the reason why I suggest that you start earlier is that on a 250M track, you are being timed from the Pursuit line (black line across the home straight) which is maybe 40M before the 200M start line (white line in turn 1/2).

Assuming we are talking about the flying lap (on a 250) in the international omnium, it is timed finish line to finish line...not the pursuit line. Just checked with Int'l Comm I happen to be married to! :)

Ooops. I stand corrected!
