If I save the seed...how do I go about growing a nectarine tree?

It's gotta pass through your digestive system first. So eat that sucker and then sift through your poop for the next week or so.

You swallow it and drink lots of water, it should sprout in your stomach in about 2-3 weeks.

Umm... can't you just dry it out and put it in the ground? I have an apricot tree that sprouted out of the neighbor's compost pile (no intervention required on his part), then he moved it to a pot, and then we replanted it in my yard.

I am not real familar with the process for stone fruit. I imagine the stone has to be broken in order for the seed to a) recieve moisture and b) put out roots.
Either way...I'm going to follow the process in the video above. Hopefully I can make a couple of espaliers in my back yard.

yes, but anything larger than a handful is a waste.

When I was growing up we just threw all of our pits in one general spot in the weeds at the edge of our woods. One day about there we had a peach tree. Don't know what happened in between, but I still say you should pass it through your digestive system. It'll feel real good coming out.

I thought they cracked open on their own time. Hmm. Maybe the hammer speeds things up a bit. I kind of doubt my neighbor did anything to break that seed.
You may not be able to grow it from seed and still keep the hybridization. Most likely you are going to need to graft or bud the new variety onto existing root stock.

There is an old saying in the South: He was shaking like a dog shi**ing peach pits.
