Foo - Disable automatic thread subscriptions?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I found that this is one of those annoying forums where every thread I post in or create will for some god awful reason decide that it's ok to automatically "subscribe" to when I post in. Thus my email inbox gets spammed with messages everytime someone posts in a thread I had posted in or created.

I can go in settings and delete the subscriptions, but they'll keep reappearing when I post a new thread or post in another thread. It isn't very user friendly to have something like that not be adjustable. :P

Is there any way to prevent this?

Go to settings, and change your preferences.

Thanks for your prompt reply.

I am not seeing a "preferences" panel. I've looked through all my available settings and can't find anything related to altering default subscription behavior:

And after I replied in this thread, it re-added the thread subscription despite the fact that I had removed it earlier. :crash:

I've looked through the subscriptions settings panel and it also does not have anything that lets me alter the default behavior. It has options for deleting existing subscriptions but nothing to alter how future ones show up.

EDIT:

Found this:

But it's already set to disable it....so it's broken?

Click on settings in upper right, find general settings along left side of screen, click and change the preference for subscriptions.

I set you via the admin panel to do not subscribe. Now you'll have to manually subscribe to a thread you want to subscribe to, or use <3 2 ride's post to reference how to change it from that.

Thanks. I had found the setting a few minutes ago but it was already set to disabled. Perhaps because you got to it first? :P

Thanks!

As for feature suggestions, perhaps have this off by default for new members. ;)

We have it set to that default because it was overwhelmingly requested by new members.....

Ahh I see. I guess there are more die hard forum followers out there then those like me. Can't argue with that then. :P
