I am here this week for work. Holy cow, this has to be the bikiest place in the entire universe. My Best Western room number plates has a bicycle printed on it. There are bike racks under the stairwells of the Best Western. Bikes bikes bikes. It's totally awesome.

Also I am really digging the blinding sun and temps pushing triple digits. I thought I'd miss the newly revealed sun back in WA but it was nothing but haze today and still below 50F when my plane departed. I definitely need this jumpstart.

Did you stay at the Best Western next to the UC Davis campus? That was the one I stayed at when I visited. They even have courtesy bikes there for guests to rent and explore the city with.

Will you have a chance to ride around?

Yeah it was hazy this morning here too.

Davis alum here! It was awesome living there--I could ride to school without ever having to go on a road once! All bike paths. Also, I believe Davis was one of the first places to have modern bike lanes put in!

I am at that Univ Lodge BW. Took one of their loaner bikes (no fee but first come first served) to shuttle back and forth to my meeting today. It's so great.

I used to live there. The bike parking was excellent, but I didn't enjoy riding in the 100+ degree heat during the summer.

The weather sucks, but I'm the type type to lust after your beautiful Pacific Northwest fog. Bike accommodations are really second to none, and the drivers are almost obscenely courteous. I quite like it here, actually, even if a summer day can be hot enough to melt the grips off your bike.

If you want any advice on thing to do (or ride to) just let me know.

The heat really is pretty intense. My grips are actually disintegrating into my hands each time I ride.

Also, wave to the guy on the red Rockhopper with mismatched tires and the "got science?" sticker on the side. :D

You'll have to check my alma mater, U.C. Santa Barbara, cooler weather, the campus is directly on the coast and it is also a Gold level Bicycle Friendly Campus. Avoid Del Playa on a Saturday night though. You've never seen so many drunk bicyclists. ;)

Gold, please? We're Platinum (http://www.bikeleague.org/programs/bicyclefriendlyamerica/communities/bfc_davis.php). You do win on the weather thing though, and on proximity to the ocean, and quite possibly on drunk cyclists, but Davis might be able to give you a run for your money.
