I know this is hard to believe, but there are disadvantages to getting thinner. As I have lost weight , I noticed a few things that I might miss from being larger. This is all tongue and cheek of course, and not a complaint on my part. Feel free to add your own comments and have some fun with this.:)

1. You actually have to pedal going downhill to get good speed sometimes.
2. Calories burned numbers are not nearly as impressive.
3. You are no longer the preferred pace line leader as a wind block.
4. Winter is much colder then before.
5. Always seems like you need to buy new clothes that are not falling off or baggy.
6. Your are not really a Clydesdale anymore. :(

7. Your tennis game will go down the toilet.

Several years ago, I lost forty pounds. My tennis game must have dropped two levels with the weight loss. Sure, I was a lot quicker around the court, but once I got to the ball, I couldn't do anything with it. No longer did I have that mass behind me that could muscle the ball to where I wanted it to go, with as much power as I wanted to apply. My game still hasn't recovered and I'm just about ready to invest in several month of lessons to get back on track, or at least back to where I used to be.

1-5 all true. 6 is a state of mind---once a Clyde, always a Clyde. The key is to remember that and adjust your food intake to your activity level. We all got to be Clydes because we loved to over-eat, for the most part.

8---people who have known you for years ask if you're really OK, or hiding the fact that you're sick.

Ok call me whatever you want but here is my gripe. I am 6'5". When I was 270 I apparently was considered intimidating...now that I am 218, I am much less so...acording to my co workers.

So go figure, when I was fat and out of shape I was scary, when I am much "more" dangerous now that I am fit, I am less scary.....

S I am with hill pumper, I grow poor buying new clothes (shrunk from 42 waist to 36) and am less scary....I liked being scary lol.

10. Buffet's aren't a good deal anymore
11. You can't just wear casual everywhere anymore and use your size as an excuse
12. You're only worth half as much in gold as you weighed before
13. Floating now takes effort, taking all the fun out of swimming

14. It is easy to find clothes that fit and look good so the clothing budget goes way up. J.Jill is having a sale!
15. Fat hides wrinkles, skinny doesn't.
16. When there is a cross wind you get tossed all over the road.

The cold thing is certainly true. Having gone from 460 to 235 (so far) I can say that last winter was a bear for me. For next winter...I'm gonna drop some serious cash on good fleece, baselayers, etc.

And the swimming thing is true too. I thought I was a good swimmer. Turns out I was just a good floater.

Fat fills out the skin. Lose the fat and you end up with more skin than you need. Also agree with everyone asking if I'm sick. I'm not sick, just the right weight. Buffets.. I look at all the food and think "that will make me fat" and eat a few salads and thats all...

The cold thing is true, but isn't bad - at least not now it isn't. Last summer, I had the air turned down to 72 degrees most of the time, and sometimes lower. Now, I've barely used it (except for the last week or so, when we hovered around 100 degrees outside). And when I do turn it on, I set the thermostat to 78 degrees. My utility bills have been lower than they've been since I've lived here. Of course, ... Winter is coming.... (Where have I heard that line before? Hmmm...)

As far as clothes are concerned, it hasn't been too bad. I have had to buy a few things while on the loss journey, but one of the advantages of having been a weight yo-yo most of my life is that I'm pretty sure to have a full wardrobe in every size...

I'm now thinner than I've been in a long while, and some of these clothes are REALLY out of style. But I stopped worrying about stuff like that a long time ago.

I own a lot of T-Shirts that used to fit. Now, most of them hang on me like I'm wearing a shower curtain. In a way, I'm amazed, I never realized how big I had gotten.

Yeah, but that's an advantage. Lots of chain cleaning rags. :)

You appear less scary, but are much more so in reality. Remember, the ability to use strength is much more important than just having it.

If you're a short little Athena like I am, losing that padding on the hip can make bumping into doorknobs lots more painful. ;)
