Houston is the most successful, in that there are lots of bike lanes, but fewer bikes using them.

I would have liked to see a link to the actual study that was done. The conclusions in the blog post don't seem to be fully supported by the information posted. Interesting read though.

I think it should be mandatory in the US that each state has a bike program and that when new roads are build or modified that the include bike lanes.

Working in the building trades, I worked on building permit applications where the City of San Diego now requires Bicycle parking on many new developments. (sadly, that town is still way behind with a lot of other bike infrastructure)

I commute in Irvine CA, which has a large, upper income, cycling community, and the bike lanes and paths are amazing. Political will usually has a price tag.
