Hybrid Bicycles - Biking Shorts...suggestions

I've got a Giant Roam 1 hybrid bike. Riding this thing is a new found passion for me, plus it's taken a few pounds off and greatly improved my stamina. I bought a pair of Canari padded biking shorts from the local bike shop. They have made a big difference in the comfort level while riding. My butt still gets sore on those rides over 20 miles however. It seems the padding is too far forward for optimal effect. I'm guessing these shorts are intended for use with the drop down handlebar styled bikes since more of your weight is supported further forward in your crotch on this style of bike.

My question is whether anyone out there knows of a padded short with padding that stretches further to the rear of the short. I think this would add to the comfort level in a more upright riding position as is prevalent on a hybid bike? Thanks in advance for any help offered.

Try mountain bike shorts. I use a pair on longer rides on my hybrid. They have a "shorts over shorts" type design.

Extremely comfortable pad that is well-placed in the inner short. I plan to get at least one more pair of these and relegate my Canaris for use under my thermal tights for cold weather riding.

I'm digging those reflective cargo pockets. Looks like a good choice for the OP. I wasn't sure if I would like bike shorts so I got the cheapest I could find lest I only use them once. Being convinced, I will surely consider those myself.

On the advice of a cycling co-worker I ordered a pair of Pearl Izumi Quest shorts from Amazon for $35. Just what I was looking for. The padding is very comfortable and it does extend further to the rear than the Canari's. Much better suited to my riding position. I also like that there are only two small insignias on the shorts. Gonna ordrer a couple more pairs of them. Curious to see how long the padding retains it's form and function. Thanks for the replies.

Zoic Ether Shorts (http://www.zoic.com/mens-ether-shorts)are great for hybrid riding. They have ventilation, are adjustable, have a good liner, and have multiple pockets. Having pockets means you can save money by not having to buy a cycling jersey, you can just use an activewear T shirt.

+1 on the Zoic Ethers -- the best "baggy" shorts I've owned. I'm thinking of getting a 2nd pair next year (got 'em at REI).

Aerotech also sells pads separately so you can put them in any short you want.

I stopped wearing padded shorts and got a padded seat. I'm a lot happier with that. The shorts are a lot cooler. For multisport vacations (bike, hike, kayak) I only need one pair of shorts.

Those aerotech shorts look sweet . for me i have a bib. i like it because it covers your ass crack when bent over. I wear baggy shorts and a jersey ( or just a shirt ) on top of them.

I like Pearl Izumis the best, I have the Quest and the Attacks. Both are good, chamois have lasted over a year and are still in fine shape. But I hand wash, and tumble dry on light heat.

I have a pair of the PI Quest, and a pair of Louis Garneau Pro Max. Both are quite nice, IMO. I tried on some cycling shorts where the elastic band dug into my thighs, but these both seem comfortable so far, though I've only worn them a couple times each.
