Mountain Biking - newbie question

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Hey everyone, if you read my previous post you will know I'm new to mountain biking. I just have a couple questions, I'm not sure how to jump could someone tell me? And, is jumping really important or can I get by without it? On the couple of rides I've been on I haven't needed to jump at all. My last question is, can I get over things like logs without jumping?(kind of and extension to my second question)

Do you need to know how to jump / bunny hop? No, however it sure will help you in technical situations. Bike handling skills only come with practice, get out there and ride.
i have been riding for a little while now and you will pick up the tricks as you go. I didn't have a teacher and i can hop a little i am sure with time my vertical will improve. Just get out htere and practice.
