I've been riding with some old look pedals and a set of ultegras...the use the same cleats. I'm ready for a new set of pedals. Any suggestions? Something I don't have to worry about?

What's wrong with what you have?

My Shimano 105's hold up to some major wattage on standing climbs...
I'd stay away from anything that's mostly a composite, or composite alloy core / spindle.

I have been using the Shimano A530's, work great using the SPD or regular shoes.

I just seem to be going through cleats to often...I ride about 350 per month and they seem to wear out every third month. I can only find after-market ones...maybe that's the issue.

I need to go dig the box out of the garage, but I'm on some OLD Shimano SPD's and still on the original cleats.
Off-topic - Visalia? I get to eat lunch at Prosperity either 2 or 4 times a year....when I drive a busload of kids to Hume. I envy you for being that close to such an amazing place! (Hume, not Taco Bell! ;))

If you have any knee problems, Speedplays are great. I have bad knees from playing collegiate basketball and have zero knee pain with the Speedplays.

Pre-mature cleat wear is usually a function of walking in them too much and too often. Try to minimize how much you walk in them, and also hunt down a set of those rubber clear covers. I'm well into my second year on the same set of cleats. My shoes are one of the last things I put on before hopping on the saddle, and then right before clipping in, I remove the cleat covers and just lay them aside until I return, upon which they are the first things to go back on.
Speedplay, rubber cleat covers, 4 years so far same cleats, easy in and out of pedals, not heavy...
