Mountain Biking - chain rings

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. i gotta get new chain rings and a new cassette, any make anyone would specifically recommend? i dont wont a set that are gonna fall apart or wear too easily. Plus - anyone reckon a "ring thing"/ "ring protector"/ "tooth fairy" is worth spending 20 - 30 quid on?
Generally speaking, the cost of three new chainrings will be about the same as buying a new crankset.
What kind of bike do you have? How much money are you willing to spend?
frame is the '99 Specailized FSR Comp, I was thinking of gettin some Race Face Turbine Cranks about £160 ish i think, So i guess im really looking for a similar price range or cheaper, and whatever cassette, im not really sure about there prices.
How much riding do you do, and how rapidly are you wearing out your chainrings? You may want to replace your chain more frequently, such as whenever 24 half-links measure 12-1/16" instead of 12". Also, keeping the chain clean and well-lubricated will keep those rollers spinning freely, thereby reducing tooth wear.
im not replacing as such, i raided this bike for the cahin rings a few months ago, and the time has come to buy new parts, so i was just wondering of any make inparticular that anyone would recommend to buy.

I had a pair of Race Face LP Turbine cranks and the Race Face chainrings. I loved them! They shifted as well if not better than my XT and looked great!

I put Race Face Prodigy red cranks and black chainrings on my '00 Stumpie. I believe Prodigy is RF's low end but they work great and the colors match the bike. On my spare wheelset (for the slicks) I went with the same 9 cog XT cassette because it's working fine on the original wheels.
