Tomorrow i'm doing the bike segment of a triathlon with my son who's doing the swim and run segments. It's a "sprint" so the bike is only 14 miles. I'm shooting for a 50 minute ride and if I really push, maybe 45 minutes.
My son normally competes in Olympic distance and finishes around 2:10 so this was my Father's Day gift.
Wish me luck.

Just got home... we came in second in Male Team Relay with a time of 1:22 flat.
We left the house at 4:15am and drove 2 hours to Montauk.
T2 was 5 miles from T1 so we dropped the car and rode to T1. My son went off for the swim and I waited in T1 for him to hand off the chip. I ran across the mats and mounted the bike. The road leading off was a mild down hill and I was going about 20mph. I tried to tell myself to take it easy and save some for the end so I don't run out of gas. But as time went on, I kept feeling stronger so I decided to push it. The roads were clean with wide shoulders. There was a cross wind and a few hills. I made the turn around and felt great. On the approach to the park there were two hills with the second one forcing me out of the saddle and speed was down to 8mph. When I got to T2 my son wasn't there... I called out his name and he came running. He expected me about 50+ minutes after I started and I was too quick. We only lost about 90 seconds and he took off. The finish was a up hill and looked like a killer way to end the race.
Final approach to T2.
My son finishing.
