Fifty Plus (50+) - Anyone use Rock 'n Roll Extreme lube?

As the title states, does anyone use Rock 'n Roll Extreme lube on their roadie chain?


How about using Simple Green Bike Foaming degreaser on their cassette?

I used the Rock 'n Roll ABSOLUTE DRY CHAIN LUBE for about 6 months last year. It was difficult to apply and the performance was no better than other dry lubes.

I know that the Rock 'n Roll Extreme lube is another formula, but I'm not impressed by the brand.

If you use Simple Green cleaner on aluminum parts be sure you rinse it very thoroughly. I have a friend that owns an aircraft and he got an AD from the FAA in 2002 about Simple Green. It pits aluminum very easily if left on the surfaces, especially when two surfaces are "mated together". It works well but please use caution with it.

For an assembly lube I use Permatex assembly lube and for packing bearings I use Bel Ray waterproof grease (the blue type in a tub or a gun tube.)

I use chain saw bar oil on my roadie. Its made not to sling off and works great. Price isn't to bad either.

I've been using Rock "N" Roll Gold chain lube for the past six or so years. It's the best chain lube I've used in 38 years of racing. It does require more frequent application but the chain and gears stay remarkably clean and it's easy to clean the drivetrain. If you ride in the rain a lot, Gold is not the best lube. In sunny and sometimes foggy SoCal coastal rides it works great. It's not cheap but it's cheaper than spending inordinate amounts of time cleaning your drivetrain and my chains last a lot longer so I think cost is a wash.

I was thinking of trying Extreme on my rain bike but I haven't bought any yet.

If you ride in the rain at all, none of the Rock n Roll formulations will last very long. I used to use them all the time but got tired of the chain noise after getting wet. I now use Pedro's Syn Lube which is much more water resistant.

I've used R&R Gold for a couple years, like it a lot, but I don't have to deal with much rain.

Not used rock and roll but Pedro's is my lube of choice. Dry for --when it ever stops raining and syn lube for when it is wet.

HOWEVER--The beater bike gets any old oil thrown at it. Nexus 8 speed so only a single speed really but when I replaced the chain I fitted a new one that had had been run a little while and then degreased for storage. WD to stop rust and the oil to hand was Car gearbox oil. Hypoy 90 in our terminology. 500 miles in all conditions and chain still clean and lubed.

@Bike, anytime I get caught in the rain or if the road is throwing up water because it's still wet, I at least wipe down the chain and re-lube.

As for Simple Green, note that I'm asking about the Foaming Spray degreaser made for bikes, not the regular concentrate.

Any of the Simple Green with the original cleaner formulae are under the warning's coverage, as I understand it. Just be sure you rinse well and don't use a lot of pressure that will force the cleaner between any place aluminum surfaces mate. the foaming uses the same formulae but has an aerator and surfactant that makes it foam up.

It's kind of sad to admit it, but I've had better luck with the White Lightning lube I get at Walmart than with any of the more expensive lubes.
