58 point sumthin' miles on SART today. To Greenriver then back to the coast. I was a bit worried about Gina today, not feeling all that well but she did dang good on the bike. The Greenriver section is under some major changes as we saw today, lots of construction.
We ran into Marcello and George as soon as we hit the trail. George and his new bike, cool Giant Defy with some beefy tubes. We'd see them again at the coast but not quite ready to hit the road when they headed out. We did run into Pete on our way back from Greenriver so he joined the group. Mark had company, a couple of friends, Nancy and Henry. Gina got the scoop so from what I gather the couple is starting a training regimen hoping to do a 4,000 mile tour, from sea to sea, Nice!
So along the way Pete took point and fought the headwind for a while. Then MTBLurker heading the opposite way turned around and caught back up with us for a visit at the coast. Still no interviews ha ha! We stayed for a while but missed Alex2 once again for the return trip. But I did later get another smile out of the guy. We headed back with Pete and the other dude Rick that we met last week. Nice pretty well organized group. Rick took the lead for a bit while we enjoyed the ride. Being the longest ride we've done in a while, Gina tired about two miles from the finish so we waved on Aimee and the boys. Gina suggested I roll with them but I hesitated then realized we were through the rough area so I gave chase for some footage. Wow, I was doing 24.5 trying to catch Aimee. She pulled the guys the last couple of miles and they were flying. Trying to catch up with the recorder, I did a PR on Strava, short 1 mile segment (Freeway Sprint North 22 to the 5) with a 23.8 average, place number 121 out of 1587 riders ha ha! I told ya, Aimee is tiny but a big monster on the bike! ;-)

So, how many flats did you get running over all that glass on the bridge? :p
PS, it's awesome that Gina rides 58 mi with you.

In the video, my narration, not bad on the bridge, after that comment I saw a little itty bitty glass. Then my narration says I just got done fixing a flat. :innocent:.................:D
Yeah, Gina's done 84 about 3 years ago on SGRT and 4 centuries on our tandem. We just been lazy the last year or two. So we decided to kick it back up for some longer mileage.
Today a 16.2 average for the 58. her best is 18.4 from Yorba Park to the coast and back (42 miles). We both need to get back into shape, so we're working on it!:D

Thanks! You guys are making me look bad, time to get on the ball.:D
Beanz, I think I saw you yesterday. Were you wearing a hi-viz green jersey?
We are training for some events later this year so we're starting to do long uninterrupted rides on Saturdays (uninterrupted by a long brunch stop and red lights). Yesterday we took our 'heavy' bikes -- me, my Surly LHT and Hubby his Trek 7500 hybrid -- and it was interesting how very few roadies even gave us a nod, many didn't even return my 'good morning' greetings... like we were invisible. Had we taken his Madone and my Roubaix, we would have been part of 'the club'. How sad is that!? But if that was you in the green jersey who returned my 'hi', then you are one of the nice guys. :thumb:
BTW, I was wearing a hot-pink long-sleeve jersey.

Was the hi green vis anything like this?:p...This is a still from my video before the other roadies joined us. We were heading toward Greenriver before returning to the coastal area. I say hi to just about everybody no matter the bike. :thumb:
I wanna say I say the long sleeve pink as it most of the times grabs my attention but can't say for sure, my old age maybe.:D

Yes, it looked like that -- the entire jersey was solid hi-viz green and it caught my eye, but I thought I recognized your face as well but of course that realization didn't hit me until we'd already passed. Next time, I'll call out "Beanz!". We're gonna start riding the SART more often to increase our weekly mileage, then start doing local long rides with hills. Do you ever ride the Rio Hondo from Peck Water Conservation Park? Have done that twice to Shoreline Village and back, with lunch at the village.
I say hi to just about everybody no matter the bike. :thumb:
I caught a few smirky grins from roadies at my husband on his upright bike. Little do they know he is 74 and completed the very windy Palm Springs century (his first) in February on his Trek Madone with bilateral artificial shoulders! :p This is just an observation... no hard feelings, I just think it's an interesting observation. :)

Yup, solid green cheap Performance special.:D But with my black helmet this time.
I get a bit confused with Rio Honda/SGRT trails. Not sure if they connect, or I have them labeled incorrectly like many don' know GMR vs GRR but seem to be the same ride.
Once an 84 miler, Encanto, to 4 corners, across to LA River(?) to the Queen Mary, lunch at Tequila Jacks in Belmont Shores (?). I don't ride there often enough to be sure about about the exact names but I think I got it right.:p
But I/we have done Encanto Park (5 or 6 miles above the SF dam) to Seal Beach and back (72 miles) quite a few times. We just prefer SART, cooler and nice IMO.
We do the long rides on SART and climbs on GMR. :D

The dude in the Billydonn picture (GMR) is 74?...........Wow, he looks great! :thumb: Who cares what the smirkies think, they'll be lucky to look that good when they're 74........ Many don't look that good at 25!:D
IMO, maybe 10% of the riders I encounter out there have a stick you know where.:D For the most part, I think a big percentage of them are cool.

Yep, that's the dude! Well, almost 74 but close enough. :) At his high school reunion he looked 10-20 years younger than everyone else in the room... and that was before we starting riding bikes! :)

The Rio Hondo and SGRT connect (near Whittier Narrows, I believe). The Rio Hondo takes you straight to Shoreline Village in Long Beach which is nice so you don't have to ride on the highway to get to the village. Tequila Jacks is in Shoreline Village, and Belmont Shores is south of the village.
But I/we have done Encanto Park (5 or 6 miles above the SF dam) to Seal Beach and back (72 miles) quite a few times. We just prefer SART, cooler and nice IMO.

GMR is on my bucket list for when I get more base miles. I did ride from the village to GRR --> GMR, but not the other way. Yet.

You don't need basemiles for GMR. The section you flew up on Baldy Rd (TDFoothills) is much tougher than GMR. Plus once you find your groove (Baldy Rd doesn't allow this, too short), you'll float up GMR. ;)
I've seen you ride and you will have no problem! :thumb:

Aw, thanks. :) But last year I didn't ride at all, not even once, due to injuries. I came back in January this year and dove right in a little to fast, so I've tapered back for 1-2 months to build some endurance before taking on bigger challenges. I did ride Baldy to Shinn about a month ago and completed it but had to stop a couple of times, so I lost quite a bit of fitness last year. But the good news is I'M BACK and should be even stronger this year now that I'm retired. :D
Sorry, I didn't mean to hijack your thread. Carry on! :o

Cool about the Yen is back thingy! :thumb:
With a Beanz thread, there is no such thing as a hijack, the more the people view, the more reasons they have to view, the better, that's what a thread is for!:D...Not so sure why some posters get so chamoised up about the hijack thingy.:D

LOL! I hope to run into you again (not literally, of course!) on the trail and if we do I'll call out your name. We're planning to be on the SART next weekend and may take our 'heavy' bikes again just for the fun of it. :D

Yeah, call out but I'll be lookng for a pink outfit.:p
I like taking the heavy bikes at times. But I sold my hybrid to a bud that begged for it, Gina still has hers but I miss mine. :( I've taken the MTB out but hate swapping tires and or/ thrashing the knobbies. Hope to get another hybrid in a bit. :D
She rode this for a couple of years on SART back in 1995'ish.

Beanz, I guess you got the new re-route yesterday by Green River. I just went out there today and was nicely surprised to see the extra 30-40' of climbing is now open for business. Might make setting a new strava record on that segment impossible now. :D
I also just noticed that past the golf course is what appears to be more SART under construction. I didn't stop to see if they're just doing a few hundred yards to the parking area, or if they're gonna start building their way towards corona and the middle section of the SART.

Yup, lots of consturction and lots of trials leading in that direction. Will be interesting to see how it ends up. :D But the trail is much cleaner now!:thumb:

Which part is that - the bypass around that minimall thing just pass Yorba if you're going north? Are they ever going to finish that?
The new pavement between the park and gypsum canyon (I think the reference is right) is nice but I think the guys who put it down were drunk. Pretty wavy and skinnier than the old path.

No, the part near greenriver (past gypsum and the park, maybe a mile or two past gypsum next to the freeway. They routed the tail closer to the fwy around the old short climb, now a bit shorter but steeper, not that it is that noticeable.
in the video, you can see the section after I see Alex2. I'm rolling down the new hill pretty fast and pan left to the heavy equipment parked along the river ( near greenriver).
the part near the rio shopping center ( rio java, car wash etc) has been that way since I can remember. I don't think they will ever change that section.
Have you ever completed the ride to greenriver? I see a segment on stava (north net to greenriver and back) but you don't show on the segment. Maybe somebody added this one after the change?

Oh, if I go to green river it's because I started there - I was supposed to meet some friends there Sunday for a ride till they flaked, the chumps. I've been sick so I wasn't getting up that early to ride on my own, that's for sure. You'll probably find me on any of the one-way segments in there.
I think I know which part you're talking about... haven't seen it for a month or two though. Sigh.
Going back tomorrow, Beanz..... I'll look for you! I may wear the pink jersey again (long sleeves, solid pink) or maybe my 50+ jersey.
The green river end of the SART has more re-routes this week too. Now the trail goes through the RV park for a while. Gotta cross a driveway and the path is pretty curvy.
I think now the whole section from the bridge to green river is new as of the last 4 months. I still kinda wonder what exactly they're doing out there.

Cool. We are actually meeting a couple of forum members from Arizona at Yorba Park, 8:30 so we will be a bit early this Saturday. But I will keep my eyes open.:D
Was that you in the blue jersey and a camera in your hand and yelling "hey" as you passed? :D That was me in the 50+ jersey. :)

Yup, I believe I caught you on camera (just about to start working on vid). I was looking for pink but the 50+ caught my eye so I started the recorder.:D
Hope you caught me smiling.... my legs were not at their best today! :o
