Southern California - San Diego rides?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I'm going to be in SD Aug 18-19 to bring my son to a baseball camp. I would like to bring my bike to ride both days. Can I get some tips on where to ride, or Strava / Garmin Connect links to some your past rides in the area?
You'll love riding here, but there are so many rides, it would be better if you gave some indication of where you want to ride - downtown, south, east, north?

I don't know....
I haven't made hotel reservations yet, but my son's baseball camp is at SD Mesa college, so somewhere around there. http://www.mapquest.com/?le=t&q=+addr%3A+7250+Mesa+College+Dr+city%3A+San+Diego+state%3ACA+%28San+Diego+Mesa+College+Hosted+by+the +University+of+San+Diego%29+&+maptype=map&vs=map

Do you want to take a nice long gentle climb to a scenic view and then a nice fast descent thru an expensive neighborhood and ride by the Miramar Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) and Montgomery airfield?
-OR-
long gentle climb over N Fortuna shoulder - down into Santee (HOT!!!) - ride around beautiful Mission Trails park and thru the spectacular Mission Gorge and then real fast descent into Mission Valley and sharp climb back to your motel
-OR-
fast descent westward - ride around Mission Bay and along coast to La Jolla with long climb up to UCSD and then ride thru campus and back to your hotel via MCAS?
-OR-
fast descent westward - long gentle climb thru Rose Canyon to UCSD and descent into La Jolla with long climb up Mt Soledad then fast descent into Mission Bay and nice long climb back to you hotel
-how about-
45+ miles
north past MCAS and Black Mountain
thru the hilly and gorgeous Rancho Santa Fe and over to the coast and then the nice climb back up to Torrey Pines
down Rose Canyon and then back up to Kearney Mesa
I have .kml files for all the rides and have done each of them many times
There are hundreds of spectacular rides from Kearney Mesa - what do you want
- how much climbing (feet?)
- how long
- do you want to see the HOT scenery east or the cooler and damper rides along the coast
- do you want to see downtown San Diego, Pt Loma, Ocean Beach?
- do you want only bike paths
- are you comfortable riding on busy roads with good bike lanes
I ride from downtown San Diego and thru Kearney Mesa at least twice a week so know the area really well
Feel free to PM me for more details and maps
Thanks sailor. We actually just discovered a scheduling conflict, so are not coming to SD. Now we're looking at a prospect camp at Pepperdine. If it works out I'll start a thread....thanks again and I do hope to someday ride in SD!
