It's my 1st time, any advice for a group RVing.

I wish I were doing it with you. We just left Illinois last week and I had my bike with me. Had I know Ragbrai was this month, we would have left to go up there a few weeks later so I could have gone on the ride. I am jealous.

RAGBRAI is a lot of fun, as far as group RVing goes, the only problem we had was one night when it rained really hard the area where the motorhomes were parked became a swamp and they actually had to bring a tractor in to pull a bunch of them out. We were lucky enough to park in a spot with solid ground. Other than that, it's just a matter of your driver making sure that they are out early enough you get to the next town before you arrive. Have a great time! It is a rolling party. If you leave early each day you'll avoid the hung over/still drunk people. ;)

I rode it last year - could not do it this year.

Enjoy!

And yes - leave very early. You'll avoid the idiots, the crowds, and the heat, and you'll be more likely to share the road with serious cyclists who (mostly) know what they're doing.

Watch the drunks at the campsite, not on the road.

I hope this year's temperatures are better than last year.

...Watch the drunks at the campsite, not on the road....

There's got to be a story behind that comment. :) We didn't have any issues where we parked our motorhome each night.

I sure hope the hot weather breaks before RAGBRAI starts, or the riding part will be miserable. The partying part, however, will be unaffected. :)

I did it last year and had a blast. Leave early each morning so you can beat the afternoon heat. We didn't have any problems with drunks on or off the road.

RAGBRAI is the only item on my cycling bucket list. Maybe next year.

I will be riding Wed. and Thurs. The ride passes within 10 miles of my home this year.

I've never RV'd, but I would imagine a gps would be of great benefit for the driver. If you're going to meet with with the driver mid-day, you may want to consider a town OTHER than the official "meeting" (lunch) town. A couple thousand people in a few block area of a small town can get pretty chaotic some times.

Try a few days and see how it goes.

I really look forward to riding next week. Thanks for the advice & stories. I'll be wearing a Murray State Cycling jersey on college day, shout out if you see me.
