Hybrid Bicycles - i need a recommendation for pedals - one side clips the other for regular shoes

i am sure you all have some god advice and experience. I want to replace the pedals on my Sirrus so i can wear clip in shoes or not, depending on what type of ride i want to do.

i am not even sure what type of clips to get, i don't have shoes yet either.

I have the Shimano M324 (http://www.rei.com/product/668198/shimano-m324-spd-pedals) pedals and I like them. I like them very much. Not too expensive as pedals go and do exactly what you are wanting--clip in on one side and wear regular shoes on the other. The pedals will come with the cleats that attach to the special shoes.
You will need "mountain bike" shoes--also called SPD shoes. They tend to be cheaper than the more "roadie" type shoes. Plus, SPD/mountain type shoes are fine for walking around in--ride to the store and be able to walk around to do a bit of shopping. (You would not want to walk very far in dedicated road bike shoes!)

I replaced my pedals with Wellgo SPD. My LBS had them for under $30. I already had a pair of Shimano SPD mountain biking shoes, and they work great together. I would recommend not spending a lot on the pedals and shoes until you have tried used them for a while. If you find you really like clipping in, upgrade to better components, if you find you don't clip in as often or hate them, you didn't spend that much.

I can't remember for sure, but those look like the ones I have on my Jake. I was just thinking this weekend how much I like them.

I also have these on my Sirrus and they work great. I use them much of the time with the clips, but have also done some casual family rides where I have used the other side. They work perfectly for what you want.

Just installed a set- they came with the release set at full resistance- take the time to read the manual to learn how to reduce the amount of force required to engage and release from the pedals. You'll need a quality 3mm Allen bit to adjust it. A lot of force was required to rotate the adjustment screw.

The non-clip side is better driven with rubber soled shoes than walkable bike or street shoes. The pedals are a great solution for what you want to do.

Are you buying them based on your weight?..........or did you mean that the A530 was more robust than the others that were suggested??

I'm deciding on a pair for myself as well.

no the weight of the pedals, the A530 are much lighter.

I've got a set of M324's on my mountain bike. Hate them. Never wear street shoes on a bike anyway - just the Keen Bike Sandals, which I love. I'll sell my set for $20 plus shipping. Let me know if anyone wants them - they're in very good condition.

I have a pair of these (http://www.nashbar.com/bikes/Product_10053_10052_175197_-1___202530) on my utility bike. SPD on one side and a nice wide platform on the other, with some pins to help keep my foot in place. They work well.

I ordered the A530 pedals also but am holding off ordering spd shoes till I have a chance to get used to the pedals.
