HI guys,picked up this 1989 schwinn traveler 23" for cheap,It was the frame & fork,tange headset,wheels & tires ,stock rear wheel & the front was a replacement wheel with a campy hub.rear derailleur was a 600 TRI-color shimano,Well took it apart and cleaned it up,traded TEON the tri-color der for some 105 brakes,put on some SR handlebars & a sr stem with some cheapo aero levers,hollow tech II compact crankset,shimano 105 brakes & derailleurs,a set of cxp22 wheels with a 11-28 8spd cassette and serfas FPS tires.Did some research before I got the bike and in 1989 travelers had the same geometry as the higher end schwinn bikes 74 degree seat tube & 73 degree head tube,gives it a real sporty feel.Took it on its maiden voyage today a 50 mile round trip to TEONS house and it rode like a dream,not the lightest nike but its ride makes up for it plus I'm fairly strong.here it is261946261947261948

I liked those Travellers ,
did my first metric on one .
Fixing up a Passage now,
much like the Traveller in geometry
but lighter due to the Columbus Tubing .

Actually the passge is alot more relaxed on the geometry,the travelers in 89 have the same geometry as the circuit and the tempo

peazweag's Traveler rode so completely different than my old '87 Traveler. Wheelbase of his Traveler is around 1.4" shorter than my 87 Traveler was. Mine rode nice, but a very relaxed and luxurious ride. This '89 Traveler has a much sportier feel to it, due to the change in frame geometry and shorter wheelbase than the '87 Traveler, imo. Still soaks up the bumps pretty nice due to the 4130 tubing.....but sure is a much better handling bike than my '87 Traveler was. (And those cranks and wheels/tires used to be on that '87 traveler of mine....peazweag and I do a lot of trading.....lol)

Yes you're right. I had both at one time . I personally liked the '85 True Temper one for touring, but I also had the 89 and thought it rode quite different, according to my notes . Flipped a lot of bikes, back a few years ago .
