Hi all, first post here.

I'm thinking of picking up a used 2009 Trek 7.6 FX that has 700x28 tires, and since my local roads are pretty crappy and I do some occasional jaunts on hard pack canal paths, I'm thinking of replacing with wider tires: 32's or possibly 35's.
Will this bike accept tires of these widths with no further modification (other than adjustments?

Also wondering about the spoke design: not sure what it's called, but it looks like 24 spokes in pairs. Will this wheel design withstand potholely roads?

I can only comment coming from a Trek 7.3FX. Mine came with 32's so unless there is some major design difference between the models I would think you could go at least 32. I am about to go to 35. My understanding is the FX line is essentially the same design just upgraded components as you go higher up the food chain.
As for the low spoke count wheels: To me a wheel is like a brassier: the low spoke count ones are like a lacy, sexy, little tiny strap bra; the higher spoke count wheel is like the lunch room lady bra. While it would be nice to be able to have the lacy, tiny strap, sexy bra, most of need some actual support.

The 7.6 is more like a road bike, which is why it has narrower tires. 24 spokes in the rear is at the low end for number of spokes and are often rated for lighter riders. If you have rough road, wider tires at lower pressure will help. Sorry, I don't know how wide a tire the bike will accept. The limits are the fork spacing, the chainstay spacing, rim width. I don't think brakes are an issue. Someone will probably know the tire widths this bike accepts.
