Group ride this morning, 53 miles, 18mph average. Sustaining a pace like that for 50 miles is a landmark for me. Granted, our area is totally flat, so I'm not too excited about the new level of achievement. I've got to start training on hills. The group today was small; 4 guys.
One 28 year old, two 54 yr olds, and one seventy year old. The 70 year old kicked our butts! He is from San Francisco, and is living in our area of Southeast Texas working for one of the refineries for a few months. Since he has joined our group, he has pulled us up to a new level! I thought mentioning this to the 50+ group would be appropriate, and might even be encouraging to some. Carry on, have a good day!:)

Good job! That's good riding even on flat ground.

So to show improvement you now have to do more than 53miles at a speed greater than 18mph:cry:

What a challenge---Well done

Excellent! I live in a flat area also (maybe not quite as flat as SE TX, but...) and a couple of rides ago did 37 miles averaging 16.x. I thought I was doing good. Thanks a lot! :D

Excellent work... What we don't have in hills, we more than make up in humidity.

Congrats on the personal best. That's some nice riding. And the 70 year old is my new hero...

I could start my own thread, but since I did a personal best on the same day as you, I'll take this opportunity to tell you about mine. Other than here, I don't have many to share this with. If I'm being obnoxious, just smack me a couple of times...

Yesterday I did a hilly solo ride - 46.5 miles with 2300 ft of climbing in less than 2 1/2 hours, door to door. I averaged 18.6 mph. I've had faster rides, but this is my personal best doing that kind of ride going solo. I'll be 57 in a couple months.

No obnoxiusness detected here...:)A solo ride with hills at that speed is remarkable. We were pacelining, sharing the pulls etc..., so I would say your achievement deserves kudos! Keep up the good work!

PR's are a blast. Great riding, guys.

18mph avg's is my next level, too. Right now it's 16.5 for hilly 30mi courses and riding solo. I wouldnt mind trying a paceline/group ride sometime soon just to see what that is like.

Very impressive. Most of us aren't good enough to maintain that speed for that many miles. Be proud and bask in it!
