Cyclocross - It's getting to be that time.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Figured it is about that time...shaved my legs, dusted off the cross bike, and rode this weekend. Can't wait for the fall.

Stoned as we speak from Mastik One. And Continental glue... yes, i mix glue *gasp*
Waiting on my other 3 rims to come in, need to build up 2 more sets before september
I'm already planning how my juniors will change their training from road to 'cross. One of them has a couple TTs to ride in August, then it's right into 'cross season in Sept.
Looking for a bike for my first cross season.
Ordered a 2013 Cannondale Caad10x today. Should be here ~August 15. Gives me a few weeks before the first race.

I've started putting mastik 1 on my toast in the morning.
I rode my CAAD10 through a massive, gummy mud hole yesterday (my drive train will never forgive me).
I even thought about running today.
Even looking to throw together some cheap barriers for practice.
Yeah - It is that time.
I've been eating a lot of cheeseburgers to get up to weight for the Clydesdale category. :thumb:

Well, you know, I'm usually in the neighborhood of 200 pounds, but some of those guys are just huge so I don't want to be in the position of having to weigh myself with my shoes on to line up next to the big boys. Better to eat the cheeseburgers.

I've stopped trimming my beard. Does that count as CX prep?

Nobbies went back on last night. Looking forward to my first attempt at cx sept. 9th when NEO CX starts.
15 miles of singletrack yesterday, shoulders are a little sore today :) Road race on sunday, then I think it's very well may be cx bike for the rest of the year.

Base miles, lots of base miles only uphill. Then I plan to run in the mud wearing lead weighted shoes carriing a 50lb bar bell on my right shoulder.

Yep. I wired my road bike into my (ancient) computrainer on Sunday. It won't see pavement again until February. Until then, if I'm outside, I'm on my 'cross bike.
I have spent 4 different sessions, about 45 min each, struggling with a set of Hutchinson tubeless CX tires using my Cannondale's stock wheels-- which aren't tubeless ready. There were times I doubted it would ever work but after a lot of fun with a compressor and stans sealant, they're finally holding air.
...Maybe I'll open a thread just about it after I get some rides in on them. I have a Bulldog front and Piranha rear.

Too bad they are not UCI legal, too wide. I use the Piranha tubless for commuting and training. Great tires with super grip on wet pavement like I will have on my way home from work today.
UCI legal is not a concern for me at all. Are you a pro, or does Canadien amateur racing use UCI rules?
I need to start doing running sprints.

No pros in Ontario that I know of but the Ontario Cycle Association, (OCA), does in fact use UCI rules so the tires must not be wider then 33cm and the Hutchinson tubless are listed as 34cm. For insurance reasons most clubs in Ontario use the OCA.
Dang, that stinks. I mean I know it simplifies things, but there are many good 34-35 mm tires. Plus rated size isn't necessarily real size, especially on a wide rim.
I know cyclocross isn't MTB racing.. but sheesh, 33mm is restrictive. Many new cross bikes off the showroom floor aren't legal.

Yeah, I noticed even the guy with the foul mouth at the top of the big run-up was practicing his heckling on the squirrels this weekend.

is the sac cx series pretty noob friendly?
i just got back on the road bike after some time off. im fat, slow, and looking for something to keep me motivated to ride through the fall and winter. Cx was on my "want to do" list when I was riding a lot.

They probably only enforce the rules for the Pro/Cat1 races. I'd double check.

All CX series are noob friendly. There are separate categories for this very reason. Do it.

Totally.
It's a great time. Come on out and ride your bike. If you're like me, you'll probably trip over a barrier, crash into a tree, retaste your breakfast, and love every minute of it!

Edonis13, You should come out. The Sac series is a lot of fun. You will turn yourself inside out but in a good way.

What class are you running ? You can run anything in all but Master 1 and the elite categories in Ontario, unless it has changed for 2012. The only exceptions are generally for provincials and nationals.
In Masters 3 and Beginners Men, you will see some of the field on Mountain Bikes. I ran all last season on 35mm tires.
With my weight gain properly achieved, I moved my A23 wheelset from the road bike to the cross bike yesterday. I thought I had cleaned the cross bike at the end of the season last year, but I still found clumps of mud in the cassette and a bit of rust on the chain.
I'm planning a new set of cables and maybe a bigger chain ring before David Douglas #1 on September 1.

Signed up for a series of clinics coming up. Getting closer.... :D
Second race practice was this morning. I still haven't got my heart rate back down. Bought my license last week on Lanceday. I think I'm all ready. The bike is riding well and I've got a spare set of wheels and a few sets of decent tires. I've got a box full of tubes ready to go.

Missed the front half of the saddle on a remount today on my ride. Turns out that rotating ritchey speedmax tires do a good job grating thighs.

Just registered for 90% of the cross series here. I'm either off my rocker or smitten with this crazy sport. Hopefully the latter...
We got the second barrier up on our private practice course; it just needs paint. Red and white tape goes up soon.

^ Sweet!
I just read the Cantilever FAQ sticky at the top of the CX forum. Good stuff in there.

I just installed Jagwire Ripcord (compressionless) brake cable housing and got rid of my interrupter levers. Holy cow, what a difference that made!
