Last week Provincial RR (Like a US state championship) flat on the first lap. Today a race I have been looking forward to all year. An ITT. 5km in nail in the tire. All season to peak for a couple of races and here we are, well here I am anyways. John Lennon said it best: " instant karma's gonna get you". I totally believe in karma but I am pretty sure I did not deserve this. I am going to reexamine my life right now and see were I went wrong.

What kind of tires?

On a side-note I wish karma was real, but life just isn't fair.

Can you recommend a tire that will fend off a nail? They don't seem likely to be an important factor in the second flat, anyway.

Oops missed that detail - but I do hear more about certain tires flatting more than others.. (nails aside)

I truly don't understand how things like this are possible either, OP.

I mean ... Tony Martin got a flat tire in a TT in the TdF ... WTH?
Me, as a simple recreational TT'er, I never have flats ... not even in thousands of miles ... not even over cobblestones and on belgian crappy roads.
So how can it be that Tony Martin gets two flats in two TT's in the TdF?
Why can't they give that guy tubes like mine?

My Schwalbe CX cyclocross tires have fended of a nail. Not a big strong nail, but still ... the metal went in at one point, bounced off the kevlar coating and came out at another point. I removed that nail by simply pullin it out and I have since done about a thousand more miles on that tire without any problem whatsoever.

I like the videos of tubulars/tubeless tires filled with stan's/caffelatex that they poke a bunch of holes in them with giant nails and they seal almost instantly. I personally don't have experience with them, but they seem to not mind having holes poked in them.
