These are very boutique-ie, artisan style productions. Granted they are pricey but hopefully long lasting. And the profits don't do to the corporate sobs with sweatshop operations in developing nations. I do encourage other folks to set up shop! I myself am looking into wool production, so you bet I'll be researching cool setups like boure (http://www.boure.com/8556.html).

I just got a pair of the Under The Weather pants and they are first rate. Extremely well made. Very expensive, yeah, but they'll also last a long, long time. Buy quality and you won't regret it.

I would spend $140 on a pair of pants, but i don't drive a car, don't have kids, have a good job and don't a house. I can afford it. Tights are often $80 and their durability is questionable.

Matter of fact most millionaires according to "The Millionaire mind" drive Fords.
Those wool jerseys look really cool, comfortable looking and less dorky than your typical bike jersey.

155 dollars Canadian it said. The thing is, if it was custom sewn/tailored to fit REALLY nice, it would probably be worth it, wouldn't want to rip them though.

Oh, I think the hypnotic pants are $140. I agree with FXJohn regarding dorky road gear.
I've already ripped two pairs of tights/pants: one climbing over a fence, the other a dog bite.

You posted this right! thanks for the links. But ouch! They are steep , but when something is designed well, fits and wears great, that is soooo worth it. Does anyone know where REI stands on sweatshops? I bought their Momentum jacket, http://www.rei.com/product/47815211.htm and it is fantastic. 100 bucks, but long, long sleeves and long rear flap in the back. It stops wind AND breathes. Not sure of the kewl factor though.

I just got these vintage, Italian Army Surplus wool ski Knickers. They're warm, wool(!), and are super cool knickers. I doubt that they were made in sewatshops, as they are vintage army surplus. The seat is really roomy, so comfortable on the bike. There are also some really cool slash diagonal pockets on the front. There is no chamois lining(duh) but wear with a pair of shorts underneath, and your be fine!
$15 vintage wool knicckers beat any crazy $155(!) knickers anyday!

I got them for something like $15 shipped, a bargain for sure!

Sportif makes great shorts with stretch material, I have two, but the one above is not made of the same.

Ah so I'm not the only one that likes that company! Cool! I was ordering a bag and decided to buy pants instead as they do look pretty cool and I can get some more miles out of the bag I have. I'll get one of their bags some other time.

They were pretty nice about it too considering they had already started the bag for me. to quote "Hey sombody'll buy it, it's a great design" if they do I have to choose a new custom flap design. I w as telling everyone in the fixed forum about it and now I don't even have it hehe

I got the Flame Scarlet, they said I was the only person not in Japan to order that color. They are BRITEST, I have to wear dark shirts or jerseys or it'd be too much, I guess they like wild colors over there cross the pacific because it is wild.

I heard about them and hypnotic designs on a different forum altogether, they had pics that led me to the websites of both too. Actually one of the people from UTW hangs out in both cycling forums. There is a big push among urban cyclists to support small cool clothes and accesories companies like what you're talking about and I agree wholeheartedly. Thanks for the link to the wool jersey, I'm going to start counting my pennies for that bad boy.

Oh and an oft eard tip, Ebay is a good easy way to find wool jerseys, just be sure the seler has a wool jersey for you and not acrylic.

I don't own a pair of the Hypnotic Design pants yet but I did once meet the designer at a racing event and he's a real cool guy. I've got a link around here somewhere of some new peeps that's really wild looking if you like really wild...somewhere..aha Crisiswear (http://www.crisiswear.com/messenger-specs.htm) Pretty bleeding edge, I've corresponded with the fellow that I think rode in the pants for them he's a real nice guy. I don't know if I'd ride in them but I'd sure as hell wear them out to a club in the summer. Check out their other stuff too if you like goth/punk items that are unique to say the least. I'm going to grab something from them for a cousin of mine having a birthday in a few months.

a few people here think I have only a few, in not only one, pair of "cycling pants." Well, I am a huge advocate of cuttin' Military cargo pants down. And I also scored a set of german wool knicks from some surplus joint in Idaho about 3 years ago. and I have a few jerseys from vintagevelos from years back, and one of the FAEMA trainers (saved my pennies for that badboy!). I have a hodge podge of old swobo liner stuff that came out near their demise, and stacks of their socks. I buy old jerseys when they are good enough. I had a Kucharik hat. I like the ole Bridgestone/Castelli wood button L/S jerseys that occasionally pop-up on eBay.
Hypnotic Designs - nice design, ridiculous price, but people must like them - saw some kind in Chi-town wearing a set.
Give me wool for fall/winter and cotton/wool for spring/summer. And my smelly adidas speziales. and ski socks. mmm...ski socks.

I bought a pair of the Hypnotic pants for tooling around downtown. Down here they qualify as winter pants on all but the coldest days. The "straight leg" design thing wouldn't work at all for anything athletic if it weren't a stretchy material, but it is strechy so it just kinda feels weird but works. The stiching is beginning to fray at the inside cuff down at the bottom of the pants and I havent had tehm but since Sept. They look cool and all but aren't really super performance built as near as I can tell. I tried using the pockets down low, you can reach them while riding but if you put anything more than a credit card in there they make the pants jangle against your knee while walking or sprinting on your bicycle.
Certainly stylish, but if i were one of the messengers I see here in downtown riding around all day I don't know if I'd go for them.
Plus you gotta be fit :D my girls brother bought some cause he liked the way mne look (he rides off road, we rarely agree) But he has this tremendous gut and is fit elsewhere. so straight leg stuff makes him look like a pregnant lightpost with his calves being built up as big as his thighs :D
