I rode my bike from the Zurich airport to the city centre, and then south, eventually crossing the Alps into Italy.

Although there were plenty of bicycle-friendly routes from the airport into the city, the signs were hard to follow. I must have asked for directions a dozen times that day. The leg from the airport to the city was the least interesting part of the trip in terms of scenery.

Notwithstanding, Switzerland is, in my opinion, one of the best places to cycle.

If I were to fly to Zurich again, I would take the train into the city, and start there. I went south along the west shore of Zurich Lake, which was a pleasant, although hilly route.

There is a Swiss bicycling map that shows all the numbered biking routes in the country. Many are signed on the streets. They seemed to available from every TI I went into.

One option is to take a train away from Zurich and then to ride back. Be careful not to assume that you can ride over every pass on the map. There is some serious uphills in Switzerland. And, so very pretty scenery.

Have a great time!

This site http://www.veloland.ch/en/welcome.cfm has loads of routes.
There is a cycle map of the zurich region which you can find above and also a set of mountain biking maps with graded trails. The blue trails I would say are ok for touring bikes.

Most routes are well sign posted and most major roads have separate paths for bikes whilst in cities there are usually at least bike lanes.

I'm just jealous. Zurich is one of my favorite places. I've never ridden my bike there, I have no advice, but I am jealous. Enjoy!
