For my general body, I wear only the performance bibs, a mid-weight Pearl Izumi jersey, and a bike specific jacket called a Concurve Windstopper.
I've tried to find the Windstopper online and I can't, although I find a lot of similar products by the same name.
This one has a windproof, water-resistant shell with a mesh liner and nothing else.
It has kept me plenty warm down to +5F, and I must admit, it has surprised me.
If I wear even a thin extra base layer of Poly, I get too warm.
When it gets to +25F and above, I take off the sleeves and use the Windstopper as a vest with arm warmers.
Having my shoulders in the breeze keeps me from overheating.
Gloves and my hands remain my biggest issue.

I purchased a pair of tights from Foxwear.net ($77). The paints have powershield on the front and 200 weight polarfleece on the back. I used the shorts at 10F and felt comfortable. A couple of nice pints is that Foxwear will customize the tights for you at no extra cost and the tights have articulated knees.
I liked the tights so much, that I bought a second pair and a jacket. The jacket has the powershield (Bright Yellow) on the front and some of the back, the breathable panels are 300 weight polartec.

That Foxwear evap light looks like an excellent product for under $80. Softshell windproof/ highly water resistant on front, your choice of weight and fabric for venting. Even though it's getting towards the end of the season I am very tempted.
As Relayer posted above the Concurve is on sale at Nashbar ... the jacket/vest is $89 http://www.nashbar.com/profile.cfm?category=&subcategory=&brand=5188&sku=13614&storetype=&estoreid=&pagename=
The triflex jacket by Performance looks really good for the price, any views?

check out the Gore Windstopper tights at performance.. I got a pair for christmass and they are great.. there really is no one perfect tight.. the requirements change widely with temperature change.. These windstoppers do well down to mid 20s.. below that I thro another lose fitting polypro tight over them, not too tight tho... that works great for me down to the teens.. below that I put another poly pro layer under the Gores too..
REI windfronts are great. I've used them for years. In Alaska too.

A few years ago, I bought several pairs of wool tights. Now down to the last one.
Always keep me warm in winter. Anyone still making these?

Sporthill XC 3SP pants zone3, 35 mph wind proof, very very stretchy, often too warm. I only wear them on the coldest days, often w/out polypro long thermal underwear. This year in the Mid Atlantic region the winter has been gentle so I've only worn them 4 times(I bike almost everyday) and never with longjohns. Here's a link
