General Cycling Discussion - planet bike rear fenders: the paint chipper

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I had (tossed it out) a planet bike rear fender on my bike. It was free, so there we go. But it was the cheapest one and sort of clipped onto the seat tube and screwed onto the seatstay crossbar. I had it on for like six months maybe, and when I take it off to clean the frame, the seat tube is all chipped up where the plastic had rubbed and scraped for months along with road grime and what not.
In short, think again when you might like to buy the Planet Bike cheapie fenders.
I'm glad I have the Topeak Defenders then

A small piece of electric tape under the clamp might have saved you from those paint chips. Anything that clamps to the bike will chip or scrape paint if there's movement involved or if the clamp loosens up. A small piece of tape doesn't cost much!
I have Planet Bike Freddy Fenders, they are a great product, best fenders made!!!
Same thing happened with my SKS Race Blade fenders. And the interface was rubber. Lesson learned.
