Electric Bikes - Trike conversion

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I know little about electric conversions but am about to learn.
But before I waste too much time and money, maybe someone can help me.
A friend gave me this geared motor:

NPC Robotics NPC-T64
1.6 HP (1180 watts) 235 RPM, 24 volts
Would this motor be practical to use for a trike with a rear axle shaft?
Or should I sell it on Ebay and start over?
Thanks,
Dan

Sell it and start over. ;) You're probably going to have to fabricate parts to get it too work.
Here's a good place to start for trike conversions: http://www.electricbicyclesmagazine.com/chain-gang-page1.html. Once you've finished reading the first page click the yellow arrows to go to the mid drive vendors. Then select trikes once you're at each vendors website.
If money is not an issue you may want to look at http://www.ffrtrikes.com/
There is also http://www.utahtrikes.com/ for various models of trikes to put a mid drive system on.
There are plenty of other members on this forum with more knowledge than me when it comes to trikes so hopefully they'll also respond. I've been very interested in trikes myself due to my addiction for speed and the trikes low center of gravity. ;)
