My granddaughter wants a cyclocross bike and I don't know that much about them. Would appreciate any input as to best entry-level (attractive price) bike. She is going into her Junior Year at college and wants a better bike than the old beat-up Trek mountain bike she currently has.
Thanks.

Is she planning to race it, or is this just for transport/recreation?

For transport/recreation, any of the major brands should have an offering somewhere in the $800-$1300 range. Trek, Specialized, Cannondale, Redline, Felt all pop to mind, but there are others.

For racing, she should be more involved in the choice, as getting something that doesn't fit just right, or has some other spec she doesn't like, could make the whole thing a waste of time/money.

College towns are hot spots for swiping bikes on Campus.
