Track Cycling: Velodrome Racing and Training Area - First time at the velodrome in Queens, New York

last Sunday finally got a chance to go to the velodrome that's free and no need to register, after 2 hours of driving finally got to Kissena Velodrome, a bit disappointed due to lots of bumps at the "bank", it wasn't smooth at all, but still worth for a ride since it was me and my friends first time, maybe i will try the T-town velodrome next time

Really excellent grassroots racing scene - super friendly, good competition.
I miss it.

If you're coming from Philly, I'd definitely go to T-town. Kissena is a great track with a great racing scene, but you might as well skip the extra travel time and traffic. As far as I know, T-town is free to train on during the day, too. Except if other events are going on. And it just looks cool when you're there, seeing the bleachers and lights and everything.

i went to t-town this early yr for the special sale?!?! i would go but i hear you have to pre-register to use the track, plus while i was in NY after the velodrome me and my buddies get to go to Flushing and Manhattan to try out lots of good food LOL hahaha that just made our day

I was looking to see what tracks are up there and the Wikipedia on Velodromes actually lists Wall Stadium Speedway as a Velodrome? I've driven there and couldn't imagine wanting to ride a bike on it ever.

Are there any northeast 250m tracks?

Wall is a Car racing track that is also now being used as a Velodrome.

Lol. I was poking around their website. I'm by no means a super experience track cyclist, but I've got plenty of races and riding on a 250m 42.5 velodrome to feel comfortable. They would make me pay them $20 to take their clinic to ride on their "track". Really? Even if you're a visiting pro or something they're gonna make you take their "clinic". Do you think the Olympians have to take a clinic to ride at the track? I wonder how much it costs.

I've ridden on motorsport race tracks before, it's not rocket science. Anyone who can prove they know the rules of the track and can ride a fixed gear should be allowed on.

Even Giordana doesn't make you take a clinic if you're experienced on the track, especially on other 250m tracks.

Wow, I think to ride on their track even once you need a $40 "license". Good luck with that. I don't see that "velodrome" getting very far.

Agreed and I live about 1 hr 20 minutes away. The do not honor the USA Cycling license so that means another layout and as stated you need to take the clinic. I respect the clinic aspect, but come on
this can get expensive.
Then again at Kissena the only clinic given in the past XX years for men was this year and by a local Track club called Pink Rhino. It was well done and THEY paid for everyones one day license if you did not have one. It was well done and got me onto the track.

The forms I read on the GSVA site had $60 track license fee for newbies, but a $10 discount for USAC license holders - they only pay $50 track license fee. I guess you have to go all in if you want to get on that track, visitors aren't particularly welcome.
