Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy.
To that end I'm going out tomorrow. I haven't ridden my favorite bike in better than a week and that sucks. It's supposed to snow tomorrow night (awesome), so I need to get out and run. While I'm a bit tipsy as I write this, I'm hoping to remember it tomorrow. My intention is to be at Trinity Church in Copley Square tomorrow at 1pm. Anyone who would like to go for a ride at that time should meet me there. I'll be on an orange bike with bullhorns.
There is no planned route though I'd certainly be up for one, so bring some ideas. On the other hand we can just spin through the city for a while too. One thought is to end up at Red Bones in Davis Sq as I got a hankering for their corn fritters. Or while we're talking about BBQ, Blue Ribbon in Arlington is tits. I could be there too.
Anyhow be there or...well, don't. I'll swing by and if nobody's there that's cool too.
way to early for a sunday, but perhaps next sunday...

I have next sunday off, i would be up for a ride to redbones...

We should do that. I did a quick 25 mile spin through downtown, through Somerville, up the Minuteman to just past the bike shop, then around and down through Cambridge, more downtown and back home. It was nice though my toes could have been warmer and I should have switched out gloves for something heavier.
I'm pretty thrilled about this snow. I'm gonna go out and tear it up either tonight or tomorrow.
i'm kinda sad i didn't go out in the snow today. last time i just got so wet, i trained it to work today and felt like a pansey.

Ah yes. The long overdue Boston ride. I missed this post on Sunday which sucks because its been a while since the fixie has seen the road. I can't do it this Sunday as I will be out of town but count me in for any future rides.
Mmmmmmmmmmm. BBQ

Just FYI, I think I'm still planning on going out Sunday even if the snow is flying like a mofo. In fact maybe even more so. I've got the fixed mtb and I'm dying to roll on a few more miles.
For planning purpsoses.
I think I just may be into a liitle spin around the city with the coaster bike provided I can get my fork drilled by tomorow.

Damn tempting, but other plans interfere. Keep the beantown crew posted generally, 'cause I need to do something other than my standard commute once in a while, even if it is wicked cold. (BT, save the "quitcher whining" response! I know that what doesn't kill me will make me stronger and so on, but half the joy of living in this part of the country is kvetching about the weather.)

I like riding in the snow, but with 18-30+" expected, I think the ride will have to wait!

Tonight...Snow...Heavy at Times. Blowing and drifting snow causing whiteout conditions at Times. Strong winds. Lows around 14. Northeast winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph...Increasing to 40 to 50 mph with gusts up to 60 mph after midnight.
Sunday...Snow...Mainly in the morning. Total snow accumulation of 20 to 30 inches. Strong winds with highs around 20. North winds 40 to 50 mph...Decreasing to 30 to 40 mph in the afternoon.
I said it before and I'll say it again. BT you are insane!
hmmm well I can get out for a bit but gotta go into work around 3... but alas it will be on my POS sprite, i'm still waiting on my cog for the soma
I think the best idea would be to ride your biggest POS you have.
I really want to do this, it's going to bring back all the old messenger memories for me and should prove to be a blast. If any of you folks want to do this I would be willing to bring down some disposable cameras so we can document the ride. Kind of think of it as a frozen dumbass critical M******* ride.

I'll bring the digital too. Depending on the wind I may end up with the 52" freewheel gear instead of 61" fixed. We'll see. :)
Plan on 1pm, Trinity Church. Dress warmly.

Oh, and check here just before you head out just to make sure that everyone hasn't bailed. I'm expecting to cowboy up though barring complete civil unrest.
Civil unrest? Have you been to Whole Foods or Trader Joes?

are we gonna meet on the square side of the church, or out front on clarendon? i should be down to ride, even though the only tires i have are street (summer conditions) tires, should make it interesting, haha

Over by the benches and the fountain ("water feature"?)
Really I don't think it should be that hard. I don't expect that there's gonna be so many folks that you won't be able to pick out our set. ;)
See ya then!

Me and the wifey got back from a movie. Drank up and went out in this garbage.
I bagged two upsets, one "F'ing moron!", and one "you crazy, man!"
See everyone (if you're man enough) tomorrow!
I went out to the packie, down mission hill (slid the whole way), then back up the hill. on the way up the hill this van pulled up next to me. the girl in the front waved, the 4 people in back were clapping for me, it made me feel good. tomorrow is gonna be a blast.
I just got back from a walk with the wife. We walked up to the Diocese by BC and back to Oak Sq. If we can get the light we can get some great photos. Oh by the way, I'm bringin' a flask of Woodford Reserve and maybe some other liquid bravado. I just hope the Booze store is open.
Hey I have a drive side Campy track crank arm for a prize if we can get a race going.

I just got home from work....
It is nasty out there. I hope it stops snowing before tomorrow. I rode for a little bit before I went in to work and it killed me. This snow ***** is brutal.
Going to bed now. I will check in tomorrow.

Konichiwa, *****es!
Your friendly weatherman checking in. I've been out and about and it's o-fficially on! We'll meet at 1pm at Trinity Church and ride for 10 minutes or until nobody can push against this wind anymore, whichever comes first.
Here's a preview of what's in store.

Oh damn, I just checked the weather. There's a super heavy chunk of storm rolling in within the next hour. It was going at 8 inches an hour in Chelmsford. They're saying this may very well exceed the record-setting totals from the President's Day 2003 blizzard.
Kick ass.
So how are those winds? Happen to notice what direction they were blowing from?
bostontrevor
01-23-05, 07:23 AM
They're supposed to be 40mph out of the north right now slowing to 25 by 1. I figure we can roll around until it stops being fun and then find someplace to grab a bite and/or a drink.
I'm having a hell of a time figuring how to dress for this one. It's gonna be around 10 degrees or so plus the wind. I'm thinking I'll go with my snowboarding pants over some thermal underwear, a jacket, and the usual gloves, socks, and shoes. Maybe I'll throw a plastic bag and another pair of socks into the mix as my toes have been cold lately.
I don't know how those pants will play out though, I haven't worn them all year but on the other hand I haven't done anything more than commute in this sort of wind/temps (nevermind the snow).
Don't tell me you're thinking of backing out!
Who all is still planning on coming? Can we get an approximate headcount so we can know how many should be at Trinity? If you need, you can reach me on my cell at 617 308 8274.

Man, I'm torn - my morning plans are cancelled on account of the storm (since they required taking my baby somewhere in a car, and the car is definitely not going anywhere right now), which means I could, theoretically, attend this afternoon's festivities. But looking at the streets in front of my house, I'm not sure I actually CAN. The drifts are such that a person could run into a parked car without seeing it first. (Also, my bikes, which hang in the back yard from hooks seven feet up, are covered up to the seat tube. That's not a problem, but it sure looks cool!) The ride from Inman Square to Copley, if I actually undertake it, should be interesting.

Sounds like a pretty weak excuse to me...
I've got a pretty similar distance to go here and it's either gonna have to be Huntington Ave the whole way or going up Columbus Ave (which isn't a lot of fun until you reach the South End).
Just think, this could be a record-setting snow fall and you'll have the privilege of saying, "Oh yeah, we had a little group ride that day." :D
I think that any way that one takes to the spot is going to be a little snow filled. My route is going to Comm Ave and I think it may be a little easier then Mission Hill or Somerville. I will give it my all to get there.
well i'm deff comming, anybody got's a pair of ski gogles i can borrow?
OK so I'm headin' out in about 2 min. Hope to see everyone there.

Whoa chief, 1pm, not noon. Just in case you had the time off.
I don't have any goggles. I'll be doing some squinting. Actually maybe I'll throw some squash/racquetball glasses in the bag just in case.

Thanks for the pictures, they are great. This what we need bike specific weather reports.! cool! No pun intended.
After I climb out a window and shovel out my door, then If I can still carry my bike to the road, or find the road. I might try it. If I do I'll bring a camera.
Oh yeah, and after I carry in some wood to dry off for the fireplace, in case the power goes off.
I still have to find the car too.

Ok, kids. I'm gonna get all bundled up and roll out pretty soon myself. Remember: *1pm*, Trinity Church in Copley. Be there or be called names on the InterWeb for at least the next month or so. I don't think you want that.
well the ride was a blast, can't wait to ride with these folks again.
p.s.

Ok, so a certain someone got a little drunker than anticipated--maybe next time I won't "train" so hard beforehand.
Anyhow, here's a pic:http://www.zweknu.org/pics/boston/p/blizzard_2005_2_0007.jpg
Kick ass, gentleman. Here's to doing it again, even if the particular circumstances of today may be a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Alright. You can start calling me names now. I tried to make it but I crashed twice between my place and Forest Hills so I turned around. I will be building a serious snow bike before next winter. My beater conversion was not cutting it at all. All I know is clips suck in the snow. I hope all went well. Some photos to prove that I tried:

Well damn, dude! We couldn't keep upright ourselves. Next time. :D
OK so I got back about 15 min ago and boy did I have fun. I'm drunk so thats a good thing, went down like a fool abot 10 times or so on the way back. Always preaching the joys of expensive whiskey and cheap beer on my way up to my feet and on to the pedals if anyone asked. I love it that 7 didn't want me on cam with the flask. The fact that you made an effort from beyond Forest Hills is amazing, for that I will do another shot in your honor. Fun times indeed. It reminds me of a time back in 1988 or so in in Sylvania with my friend Jerry. We were hitting a big snow bank on our bmx dealies doing stupid snow wall rides. Great photos Trevor. I have to wait untill tomorow for mine. They will be up by 12.
jinx, i crashed 2 times before i got to the bottom of mission hill... glad you made the effort, see you next sunday for a ride to redbones?

If you want bigger pics, just replace the '/p/' with '/b/' in the URL and you'll get 2048x1536 images. Reveals some details that may otherwise be hidden. Again I say, kick ass. Hadda piss like a race horse by the time I got home.

Hell yes. I will be there.
My second crash was pretty nasty so I convinced myself I would die before I got to Copley if I kept going. My elbow and wrist are pretty banged up and my whole body is sore. Props to you guys for making it, I imagine you are worse off than me. I was laying down some record setting skids though!

Thanks for all the pics. They are great. They make me want to grab the lights and go right now.
I never made it out today. Too much shoveling. Now I realize that I MUST ride tomorrow. I WILL ride tomorrrow.
