My wife and I bought a tandem today to train for possibly doing the Seattle to Portland ride this year. I'm curoius what year this one was made. The wheels are 700C. It has:

Frame: TrueTemper CW 4130
Rear Derailleur: Suntour XCE
Front Derailleur: Suntour XCE
Shifters: Suntour Bar Con Power Shifters

Cranks: Suigino GP

Brake Levers: Suntour Blaze BRS
Brakes: Dia-Compe 984 Cantilever
Drag brake: Arai Drum

Seatposts: Sakae
Saddles: Avocet

Stems: Sakae
Front Bars: Sakae drop
Rear Bars: Belleri drop

Headset: Tioga Avenger Oversized

Hubs: Suzue
Wheels: 700C

I think the derailleurs put it between 1990 and 1993. Thanks for any help you can give.

It's at least a '91 as I believe this would have been the first year that Burley began using the new Tioga Avenger ovesized (OS) headset (1 1/8"). All the other components sound about right for a '91 -- and probably for a '92 as well. Rims would most likely be Sun Mistral with 48 spokes. Again, when all else fails send an Email to the builder with the Serial Number and they can tell you.

Thanks for the info.
Where is the serial number? I couldn't find one.

Today I switched it to flat bars and grip shifters and mounted rack, fenders, and lights. Just need to get some decent saddles and we're ready to roll for < $500.

It should be located on the right side of the right rear drop-out... probably partially hidden by the axle nut.

That's a 1993 model. After that year they went to Shimano components, and before then I don't believe they had indexed shifting. My wife and I have one, and think it's great.

Cheg, I think that your Burley is toward the later end of the age range that you mentioned. The earlier ones had 27" wheels. The Suntour bikes were all indexed.

Do you two realize you're responding to a posting from January 2005?

Please do check the 'vintage' of threads when surfing the archives.

Now I do! I never followed the date to the top; only the most recent reply. I won't fall into that trap again!
