Women's team sprint qualifiers were quite something. If they get any better than that we're in for a treat.
Whoa...I need to turn on the TV (hoping it's on Verses...).

I think the team pursuit may be my favourite event. Love the precision of it.
Denmark... nice.... Note the way they rode up to the redline out of the turns to keep from scrubbing speed and dove to the black line.

I like the Spanish kit. Not my colours, unfortunately.
35 + second 500 times for team pursuit. Good god!
They sure have crisp rotations - really impressive!

NZ looked pretty baddass all blacked out, including bikes and 8 discs.

The Russians looked like they were pulling a bigger gear than the GB team - cadence appeared lower....

Chris Boardman, commentating for the BBC, awards the German sprint team the prize for most muscular team in the competition.

Well done Ex. That was a disaster for the GB women, how could she do that with all her experience?

Sorry. Anyway, you can see they aren't in the final. Broke the world record in qualifying then DQ'd in round 1 because Pendleton came through too early.

Thanks Ex... team sprint was intense -- especially with the anchor legs making up deficit to pull out the win.
With all the fringe sports that are in the Olympics these days (which I'm fine with), I can't believe they canned so many of the track events. $150M facility... use it!

Blame the UCI. In order to give the women equal time (which I'm fine with) and include the Omnium (which I think is more questionable) they have dumped some serious events. No individual pursuit? Sheesh.

So, the two fastest women's teams have both fallen foul of the rules. Not what one wants to see, really.
Two relegations in women's team sprint. I cannot believe it.

Yeah. And look which two. The third fastest team takes the gold.
Okay, I saw the final - why were the Chinese relegated??

Well, I'm very sorry we were deprived of a GB-China final in the women's race, but the men's race was terrific. Hoy now with five gold medals, Kenny looking in the sort of form that might give Bauge a fright in the sprint, and a nineteen year-old lead-off man who is a real prodigy.
Looking forward to tomorrow.

Hoy destroyed that last leg.
It's been really hard doing housework and watching this!!!! I've been setting PR's in running to the kitchen to watch the events!

LOL, Sara. Only a few of them. And needless to say, no congratulations are due to me, I just watch them. They are superbly prepared, though, there's no denying it.
The relegated team sprint women must be on suicide watch right now. Take away their belts and shoelaces. They are going to feel awful and it will take awhile to get over that.

Vicky's shoes don't take laces. She might stab herself to death with the heels, I guess...
I find it hard to believe that two teams were relegated. I smell a rat - poor officiating or failure to communicate what these officials thought constituted a legal exchange. I am sure it will be analyzed to death but the problem is that even if the officials were wrong the women are still screwed.

You could have put that better, perhaps? LOL
I agree about the Chinese, the slow-mo indicated that decision was marginal at best. But Pendleton was interviewed by the BBC immediately after they were relegated and pretty much admitted that she had overlapped Varnish's wheel before the window. C'est la vie.

Reflecting on yesterday in the velodrome, things do look really good for the British track team. I had expected them to struggle to match their Beijing performance. Some of them are getting towards the ends of their careers, and everyone else has moved on. But they looked untouchable. We'll never know whether the women would have beaten China in the team sprint, but Pendleton looked stupid fast. Her match with Meares in the sprint is a mouth-watering prospect. The men's team sprint speaks for itself, and as for the pursuit team, I can't see anyone getting within three seconds of them.
I don't really do flag-waving, I'd be as impressed were they from the USA or Oz. But the way they have put this track programme together, and continued to improve over the course of more than a decade, is truly remarkable.
