Bicycle Mechanics - First fixed speed bicycle just arrived, never built a bike before and need some help.

Ended up purchasing a "Fuji Feather" as my very first fixed speed bike and was wondering if there were any online guides/assembly instructions for fixed speed bikes for me to follow..
I've NEVER built a bike before and have no idea where to start first, I just want to make sure I do everything correctly. Better safe than sorry right?

First off, never clamp a frame, the paint is now damaged under the workstand clamp.

Install the front wheel, followed by the front brake is so equipped. Then install the stem and handlebars, adjusted to fit you. Inflate the tires and give it a test ride in a low traffic area.

I am assuming you have some basic tools and mechanic skills.

Don't trust the factory to assemble anything nicely. Oh, it will work but the likelihood of overly tight bearings, no grease on threaded fittings, under tensioned spokes, rubber rim strips over double walled rims, ect is too great. Especially on a bike like a Fuji sourced outside the LBS distribution chain and therefore built to a price point and not a quality level backed up by skilled people who have their reputation at stake. Andy.

If you don't have a way of properly (key word) tightening your cog and lockring, please bring your bike to a local shop to get this taken care of before you ride it or you risk damaging the threads on your hub.

Other than the obvious (can't size chain without wheel installed) there is no particular required order, and no difference between building a bike and installing/adjusting the individual components. If you have adjusted bearings, installed bars/stem, trued wheels, etc. then you just do the same things. If you have not done those things before a forum thread is not going to do it. Try Sheldon's or Park's site for each part of the build.

You might want to invest in a lock ring tool of your own. I had a cheap fixed gear where the hub had a bevel where the flange met the thread. Basically as I rode, the cog threading would slowly grind itself into the bevel and develop some play. It took about a week of riding and tightening before it finally locked all the way in.
