Bicycle Mechanics - Bad for suspension Forks

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I store my mtn. bike from the ceiling by the wheels. I was recently told this is bad for the front suspension? is this the case? If so should I get one of those mounts that store it from the bars and seat.

While it is preferred to store in normal attitude, it is not neccesarily harmful to invert. It can be for hydraulic brakes, as it will allow air seepage from the reservoir. In forks, if the seals are iffy they could seep oil out, but if they do they need replacing anyhow. A fork that has oil in it uses the oil as a damping fluid. As such, it dampens by pumping it through a piston and set of metered holes. Thus all you have to do is set the bike in normal attitude again and let it a few mins, bounce it a few strokes. If it feels loose at the first pump that is because the pumping mechanism is not yet pumping. I have heard some people that say to invert periodically lubes the upper portion of the fork better. Take your pick.

Fox recomends hanging theirs inverted to keep the seal components lubed. Check with the manufacturer.

Depends on the fork. A simple one with springs and elastomers are OK to hang, but those with oil dampining can leak out.

But if they do leak out that means the seals are not sealing and thus will be problems in use as well.
